You can sponsor Girls Swimming for the season
Winning each of the meet’s first 8 events and sweeping 4 of them before going exhibition, the Amity girls swimming team cruised to an easy 99-74 season-opening Southern Connecticut Conference Housatonic Division victory over Shelton Monday night at the Orange Community Center Pool.
The Lady Spartans opened the meet by going 1-2 in the 200-yard medley relay. Mollee Lasto, Melissa Gulia, Hannah Flaherty and Dana Chung combined for a winning time of 2 minutes .61 of a second. The winners’ B relay (Wendy Kenyon, Lydia Pokluda, Jessica Kochiss, and Hannah Babbitz added a second place 2:02.06.
Amity added a sweep in the 200 freestyle. Madeline Snow checked out at 2:13.66 and was followed home by teammates Elizabeth Lubin (2:13.86) and Kelly Grindall (2:14.44. It was the same story in the 200 Individual Medley. This time, Shannon Early led the way with her 2:17.96. Lindsay Morton (2:14.4) and Brittany Smith (2:31.94 completed the sweep. Dana Grindall and Pokluda splashed to a 1-2 finish in the 50 free Their respective times were 24.75 and 27.21. The visiting Gaelettes had no divers so Amanda Craig (207.65 points), Nicole Guadagnoi (138.80), and Carly Young (101.10) posted another sweep.
On the heels of her second place finish in the 200 IM, Morton won the 100 butterfly in 1:02.42. Smith added a third place 1:10. Chung’s 57.02 was the top time in the 100 free and Babbitz chipped in with a second place 1:00.50. Anna Lu (5:15.11), Kochiss (5:29.75), and Lubin (5:58.69) swept the 500 free in the last event that Amity chose to score. Coach Todd Rainey decided to have his girls swim exhibition in the meet’s final 4 events.
Amity’s “Swimmin’ Women” are back in action Friday night to face Sheehan in a 4 PM. Housy Division meet at the Titans home pool in Wallingford.
