The Kadima 6th, 7th & 8th graders of Congregation Or Shalom spent six hours outdoors in cardboard boxes outside the Synagogue last night for their annual “Freeze Out”

The Freeze Out was an effort to become aware of the plight of the homeless in America. Last year 11 youths shivered on the snow covered ground this year, 14 young people and their adult chaperones gathered around a nice warm campfire.

The kids toasted marshmallows on long sticks and later learned what happened to a balloon when it hits the flames — it pops, sending sparks flying in every direction and then the smell of latex wafts through the air for quite a while afterward.

Throughout the evening people stopped by to drop off items that would be of help to the homeless (e.g., toiletries, coats, hats, gloves, etc.) that will be delivered to local shelters immediately. They also accepted cash donations for Orange Operation Fuel.

Orange Live gives all of you a big thumbs up.
