I hope that all members of our community are surviving this historic weather event in the best possible manner. We are encountering a truly unique set of circumstances with the removal of snow and the creation of safe passage for busses in the Town of Woodbridge.
Bethany and Orange have been cleared for bus travel, but Woodbridge has not. We have been communicating with Woodbridge Town officials who have been doing their best to clear roadways so that school busses might travel safely. We have been advised that Woodbridge roadways will not be sufficiently clear to allow for bussing on Wednesday, February 13. Therefore Amity Schools will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, February 13. This closure includes the middle school in Orange. I will be meeting with Town officials once again at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday and will have an update for you after that meeting.
I want to thank all members of the Amity community for your patience and understanding. Please know that we are eager to resume schooling and will do so at the earliest possible time.
Some have asked about use of days during the February vacation period for make-up of days lost due to the blizzard. The Board of Education considered the option of using February days when it revised the calendar last fall to account for lost days at that time. The decision was made to stay with the published calendar which takes days from the April vacation period. Numerous parents asked the Board not to go back on its published calendar as they had made plans accordingly.
Please stay tuned for updates as we receive information on road conditions in Woodbridge.
Very truly yours,
John J. Brady
