If you grew up in Orange, went to Amity and are in the nearly 40 range, you most likely know Ed “Eddie” Choiniere.
Back in the late 70s, Eddie and his buddy Billy Connors started a band and although the name changed over the past few decades, the guys still play together in their latest band “Cougar Slayer.”
At Amity High School Eddie began dating a cute girl named Peggy Witheral. You may remember them as the captain of the Amity Cheerleading Team and the Amity Spartans linebacker/offensive guard, who was named the 1982 Football MVP who always liked to joke around.
Some things never change, Eddie still has an effervecent personality, infectious laugh, he still plays in a band with the same guys from Jr. high school and yes, he married his high school sweetheart.
In Orange many residents know Norman and Joanne Choiniere well. Joanne was a school nurse primarily at Peck Place School for about 30 years. Norm is on the Board of Directors for FISH in New Haven. Both are active in their church, Holy Infant, over on Racebook Road.
In 1977 Norm opened the Stop & Go Transmissions and Auto Repair shop at 947 State St., Bridgeport.
“It’s funny,” Eddie said. “People know I’m a singer, but they don’t know what I do for a living.”
After College in 1986, he took over ownership of the shop. He’s owned and operated it since.
Norm is still involved at the shop and works there part time doing the bookkeeping.
Eddie and Peggy have 4 sons all whom have helped in the shop.
Currently, the eldest son, Edward Jr works there full time as a technician and helping run the front office.
Their third son, Michael, attends college during the week and works at the shop on Saturdays.
Just a 20 minute drive from Orange, Stop & Go of Bridgeport is well worth the trip.
As a customer, I like the fact that they don’t talk down to female customers (or treat them like another, closer shop of the same name does).
Eddie says At Stop & Go of Bridgeport they offer good service, honesty, and correct diagnosis of what’s ailing your vehicle.
“It’s all about the service,” he said. “We go above and beyond with service.”
Stop & Go of Bridgeport has a Facebook Page, and they would appreciate your “Like.”
