Students wrote an essay to the event’s coordinator, social studies teacher Jennifer Marganski, explaining why they would like to take on a particular municipal job for the day and what they hoped to learn from the experience.
The following students assumed the following positions for the day: First Selectman – Mounisha Anumoto, Police Chief – Chris Greco, Building Inspector – Natalia Dobbs, Fire Marshal – Anne Marie Allen, Assessor – Madelyn Ciskowski, Park and Rec. Director – Taylor Gourdier, Librarian – Arianna Pargen, Dept. of Community Services – Alexis Halstead, Public Works –Maggie LoSchiavo, Registrar of Voters – Andreanna Adkins, Town Engineer – Erin McCormack, Town Planning and Zoning – Emily Berkeley, Town Clerk- Jocelyn Eagle, Sanitarian- Alexa DeGennaro and Tax Collector – Allison Hummel.
Students were treated to an overview discussion on the ins and outs of local town government by Town Clerk Pat O’Sullivan and even went on a special tour of Town Hall after receiving a pin with the Orange town insignia from First Selectman Jim Zeoli.
Throughout the event students were able to learn about the responsibilities of various government officials in Orange.
This is an experience that many AMSO students have enjoyed throughout the years and one that they won’t forget.
