The Redfish Grill, a seafood restaurant, will be opening at 285 Boston Post Road, the site of the former Orange Family Diner and several other businesses in the past decade or so.
Many residents are looking forward to the new addition to the town and are anxiously awaiting the renovations to be completed so the eatery can open.
The old business mentioned in the headline, believe it or not, may actually be Stop & Shop on Bull Hill Lane.
An employee told Orange Live that the store has been losing business due to the close proximity to the very successful Stop & Shop in West Haven and the only thing really keeping it going right now is the gas station.
The man said the West Haven store would be getting a gas station and soon after the Orange store will close its doors.
None of this has been confirmed, but longtime shoppers said they wouldn’t be surprised.
“It’s just not very clean or well stocked,” said Orange resident, ‘Denise.’ “I won’t even go there anymore.”
We caught up with Avery Williams, outside at the Stop & Shop gas station. “I really only go there to get a discount on gas,” he said. “I do most of my shopping at the West Haven store. I like it better.”
If Stop & Shop does close its Orange store, it may open up endless possibilities for other businesses to consider the vacant building (next to Kohl’s) across the road where Builder’s Square and K Mart used to be many, many years ago.
The building is owned by Stop & Shop which has purposely kept it vacant so it wouldn’t have any competition, according to several town officials over the years.
As I said, this is based on the word of an employee, and we could not get any official confirmation. Only time will tell, so keep your eyes and ears open and let’s see what happens.
