On Jan. 2, Emergency Management Director Fred Palmer sent out a notice with links to useful websites and other important information to help prepare residents for the frigid temperatures.

This morning the Fire Department responded to a local business on a report of a burst water pipe – one of the things Palmer mentioned in his notice.

There are so many things that people do wrong when under stress and hastily trying to thaw out frozen pipes.

I’ve been keeping my kitchen faucet flowing for a few days now, the water going into containers, then through a filtration system so I can use it for the fish tank or to fill my dog’s bowl when needed.

I found some good information on the State Farm website regarding frozen pipes that you should take a look at. I don’t want to see anyone going through a flooding situation or having a fire because of this nasty weather.

Take care and use all the necessary precautions to keep your home and family safe.
