Goalie Hannah Cremo was ready for anything

At the beginning of the school year, we were told that Amity would have its own girls hockey team. That’s what it looked like at the end of last year, with so much interest in the sport.

But when it came time for Winter Sports sign ups, many of the girls did not come back and Amity returned to its previous co-op arrangement with the Blades.
The Blades Girls Ice Hockey Team has players from Amity – 10, Cheshire -9 and North Haven -1
Last year, Amity had 16, Cheshire – 7, North Haven – 1.

Head Coach Scott Whyte said the first period was a little rough, then they came together as a team and started passing and getting more shots.
West Haven’s Mya Berretta scored the first unassisted goal at 1:24 in the first period and a little more than a minute later Nicole Woosley, shot one past Blade’s goalie Hannah Cremo, assisted by Gabrella Prisco and Marisa Pacapelli.
Not to be outdone, the Blades’ Peri Sosensky scored, assisted by Jenna Casman at 4:51; Meaghan Francis, assisted by Emily Gotowola evened the score at 6:49 and Abbie Lange went solo to push the team to the lead at 12:39.
The second period was uneventful until Gotowala, assisted by Francis scored a goal with 1:20 left in the period.
In the third period, Lange had another unassisted goal at 5:57, bringing the score to 5-2.
West Haven pulled together and Berretta scored again with assists from Woosley and Carly Crouse with just 1:29 left in the game.
Final Score 5-2
Amity-Cheshire-North Haven outshot West Haven 37 – 24
West Haven’s goal keeper Josy Militrano made an incredible 32 saves and the Blades’ Hannah Cremo had 21.
Whyte said Cremo did very well in the net.  Emily Gotowala (22) and Meaghan Francis (2) both played great. On Defense, Captain Abbie Lange  (16),  Alyssa Stevens (21), Caitlin Early (3) and Jenna Casman  (19) also all played well.
Whyte added that Stevens and Casman both played well until the very end, when, with 22 seconds left in the game, began fighting with the other team.
Both were penalized with a one-game suspension for their actions. All of the Coaches were more than upset with the girls for ruining what could have been a nice victory with their unsportsmanlike behavior.
Records: Blades 4-1; West Haven 2-2
