Orange police on patrol observed a janitorial worker at the Ocean State Job Lot store, 401 Boston Post Road, dumping a bucket full of water and cleaning solution in the parking lot of the store, in an area that drains into the nearby Indian River on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 1 a.m.
During the investigation, officers learned that the supervisor ordered the worker to do this.
According to the report, the supervisor, Pedro Pineiro, 44, of 119 Hallock Ave., New Haven admitted that this procedure was often used to dispose of the cleaning solution. He was cited with an infraction ticket for illegal dumping for his actions.
The cleaning company vehicle also was cited for not having an insurance card.
The Orange Volunteer Fire Department and the State of Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection both were contacted to assist with containment and clean-up.
