The applicant offers his proposal for Projectfitkid

Last night’s Town Plan & Zoning Commission Meeting was short on agenda items, but one in particular captured Orange Live reader’s attention.

The proposal to locate a recreation and exercise center for children at 500 Boston Post Road was presented last night and brought some lively discussion to the table.

Projectfitkid, the brainchild of an injured US Marine who gained excessive weight after he was wounded, would give overweight children a place to exercise and get into shape in a truly judgment free environment with caring people who had been in their shoes.

The commissioners seemed to like the concept, location and everything about the new business, but there were a few unanswered questions, such as, specific P&Z requirements for which the business was seeking waivers.

The application also was missing occupancy paperwork from the Fire Marshal’s Office.

500 Boston Post RoadOnce all the necessary documentation is provided, it seems likely that Projectfitkid will open in the former Benjamin Moore paint store that lies on the backside of 500 Boston Post Road (where Reno’s Pizza and Diamond Designs are located).

The center would be open weekdays around 5-7:30 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

There is another center in the Norwalk area, and many of the clients/customers come from Milford/Orange area, so the choice of Orange just made sense.

We will keep you updated on this proposal as it evolves.
