You sing in the shower. You’ve mastered belting ‘80’s power ballads. You love to dress up, and you’re looking for a stage to step on to. If any of these statements describe you – you could become the next CT Idol.
Slant of Light Productions, a Milford-based nonprofit theater company, seeks 12 contestants to sing their hearts out at Karaoke Heroes on Monday, Feb. 17 (President’s Day). This year’s contest is 80’s-themed, and each participant must prepare three songs released during the decade of big hair, the Brat Pack and mix tapes.
Three judges will be on hand to narrow down the pool of contestants, American Idol-style. All contestants will compete in the first round, six will make it to the second, and from there the judges will select the final three. Everyone will participate in a‘80s medley before the final round.
The grand prize is two hours of free studio time at Onyx Soundlab Recording Studio in Manchester, Conn. The consolation prize is getting to deck yourself out in 80’s garb and sing your heart out to Whitney Houston (or Madonna, Bon Jovi, etc. – your choice).
The night kicks off Monday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. at Karaoke Heroes (212 Crown Street, New Haven, Conn.) Contestants will be asked to come in the late afternoon to run through the show. Registration is $20 and proceeds benefit Slant of Light Foundation’s programs, which include theater education and community outreach through performing arts.
