Post 127 Orange hosted its Oratorical Contest at Amity High School on Jan. 24 with Legionnaire James White officiating. The top four contestants, out of thirteen, were then presented to a panel of judges. The winners chosen were:
First Place: Eeman Abbasi
Second Place: Michael Yuan
Third Place: Andrew Su
Fourth Place: Liam Williams
All participants did an outstanding job of presenting an eight to ten minute speech focused on “The citizens’ responsibilities within the Constitution of The United States.”
The first place winner, Eeman Abbasi, then competed on February 1st at District 2 of the American Legion and won First Place. She will now go onto the State Finals to be held in Hartford on March 1st.
The Awards Ceremony for the Oratorical Competition was held at Post 127, Grassy Hill Road, on Feb 5th. All of the winners received an award; Eeman also received her District Award and a Citation from the 2nd District Oratorical Chair, Mr. Bruce H. Carlson.
A special recognition was given to Mr. Rick Bourdeau, History teacher and leader of the Amity H.S. debate club.
