Harriett Velms Lattanzi, age 85, of Orange, beloved wife of 42 years to the late Dr. William E. Lattanzi, died peacefully surrounded by her children at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford on Sunday, February 16.
Harriett was born on August 3, 1928 to the late Joseph and Helen Hamulak Velms of Ansonia.
She was a graduate of the University of Connecticut where she majored in Home Economics and English.
Harriett was a resident of Orange for more than 50 years.
An artist well known for her watercolors of landscapes, nature scenes and flowers, she taught in local after school programs for many years.
A gourmet cook, elegant dresser, and self-professed tomboy, she enjoyed horseback riding, tennis, golf, and bridge, walking with her friends (the “Walkie-Talkies”), reading, writing poetry, and traveling the world.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be truly missed. Harriett is survived by her sister, Jeanne Steiner of Bristol, CT; daughter Laura Sterling and her partner Joseph Deuel of Saratoga Springs, NY; son William Lattanzi and daughter-in-law Martha Vibbert of Belmont, MA; daughter Susan Roser and son-in-law Mark Roser of Hebron CT; her seven grandchildren; and the vibrant community of friends that brought her so much joy throughout her life.
Friends and family may call on Wednesday, February 19th from 4-8 PM at Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford CT 06460. At 7 PM, any and all are invited to share their memories of Harriett.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 20th at 11 AM at Holy Infant Church, 450 Racebrook Road, Orange CT, 06477.
Interment will immediately follow at Orange Center Cemetery.
A reception at the family home will follow from 1 to 4 PM.
Donations may be made to the St. Raphael’s Campus of the Yale New Haven Hospital, the Orange Arts and Culture Council, or a charity of choice .
