The Orange Volunteer Fire Association held its annual meeting and installation dinner at Grassy Hill Lodge in Derby on Tuesday, March 11.
Among the service awards, proclamations and announcements was the presentation of the Firefighter of the Year Award.
Each year, the Fire Chief and Line Officers get together and discuss the actions of their members during the past 12 months and discuss, debate and ultimately choose a worthy volunteer firefighter for this prestigious honor.
This year longtime member Donald Foyer, whom many residents know as the Highway Department Crew Chief, who is always one of the first to sign in when the department is toned out for a call anytime day or night, Donny takes his place in the driver’s seat and waits for a crew before responding to car accidents, house fires, carbon monoxide or smoke alarms, chimney fires, brush fires — anything that comes their way, Donny Foyer is there.
He also took the reigns of running the Orange Firemen’s Carnival a couple of years ago, working with other carnival committee members to make the event fun and entertaining for Orange residents and out-of-town visitors alike.
Foyer joins a long line of honorees, including Lisa Kaplan, Leo Moran, Jeff Robertson, James Patchell, David Tufano, Drew Panapada, Kevin Pelham, Stephanie Knight, and many more, dating back to 1992.
Thank You Don for your dedication to the department and congratulations on this well deserved honor.
