Screen shot 2014-03-13 at 7.54.31 PMAngelina Karajanis Pappas, 78, of Hamden passed away March 10, 2014, in Yale New Haven Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was the loving and devoted wife of Steve (Papaioannou) Pappas for the past 53 years.

Born in New Haven on Nov. 19, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Kremasotis and Catherine Gelagotis Karajanis. She attended Welch School, Troup Jr. High School and graduated from Hillhouse High School, Class of 1953.

She attended St. Barbara’s Greek Orthodox School in New Haven as a young student learning to read and write in Greek. She was an excellent cook and baker and excelled in making Greek dishes.

Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, Thane (Gabriela) Pappas of Hamden; a daughter, Stephanie Pappas Christides of Cheshire; a brother, Charles Malis of Cheshire; a sister, Irene D’Orsi of Orange; and two grandchildren, Matthew Christides and Tristan Pappas.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Michael and Harold Malis and John Karajanis; and six sisters, Tessie Nuzzo, Mary DiStasio, Bessie Dill, Adele Malis, Helen Haskos and Mersina Schile.

Friends are invited to attend funeral services in St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 480 Racebrook Road, Orange, Thursday morning at 11:00. Viewing prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00. Interment will follow in Orange Center Cemetery.
