evenflow recall bucklesEvenflo announced its decision to recall more than 1.3 million of its products due to a harness/buckle defect. According to a recent press release from the Ohio-based company, several convertible car seats and harnessed booster seats models are being recalled in coordination with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

This is the Press Release:

Evenflo designs, engineers and tests its products with safety as its number-one priority. It is with an abundance of caution, therefore, that Evenflo has decided to recall select 2011-2014 convertible car seats and harnessed booster seats, identified below by name, model number prefix and date of manufacture.

If your seat’s name and/or model number prefix is listed below, but your seat’s date of manufacture does not fall within the date ranges listed below—then your seat is NOT impacted by this recall.

These select models use a harness crotch buckle which may become resistant to unlatching over time, due to exposure to various contaminants (like food and drinks) that are present in everyday use of the convertible car seat or harnessed booster by toddlers. This condition may make it difficult to remove a child from the vehicle. There is no such risk if the buckle is functioning normally.

These convertible car seats and harnessed boosters meet all requirements for crashworthiness under the federal FMVSS 213 safety standard and can continue to be used to transport your child safely, if you are not experiencing difficulty unlatching the buckle. Importantly, Evenflo has received no reports of injuries to children in connection with the use of this buckle on the seats that are subject to this recall.

Evenflo is providing consumers who own affected seats a remedy kit, free of charge, that includes a replacement buckle and instructions for the installing the new buckle. The remedy kit is available by placing an order with Evenflo or calling 1-800-490-7591. Please do not return these convertible car seats and harnessed boosters to retailers. If you are experiencing difficulty unlatching your buckle before your remedy kit arrives, cleaning the buckle should alleviate the difficulty. Instructions for cleaning can be found here.

We place great importance on your trust in us, and we apologize for any inconvenience or concern this matter has caused for you and your family.

Evenflo is conducting this voluntary recall in coordination with the U.S National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”).

No reports or injuries have been reported in the connection to the recall.
