The Marcell Family is mourning the loss of our patriarch, Roger Scott Marcell Sr., of Clinton, CT, who passed away the morning of Tuesday, April 15. Roger grew up in West Haven, CT during the heyday of Savin Rock and was a graduate of West Haven High School in 1970.
In 1972 he met his first love, Bonnie Lynn Moller, who would become his wife in 1975 when they were married at Holy Infant Church Orange, CT.
Roger recently retired in 2012 from Metro North Commuter Railroad, where he was a machine operator and instructor for over 35 years.
In his passing, we have lost a Father, a Husband, a Grandfather, a Brother, an Uncle, a Son, a Coach and a Loyal Friend. Roger was many things to many people in this life, but he will be most remembered for his kindness and compassion to friends and family in times of need. Whether he was working with his sons on a home project, getting a friend through a difficult financial time, or helping his brothers, sisters, nieces & nephews, Roger always made himself available.
He truly enjoyed being in a position to help and never turned away an opportunity to contribute to his friends, family & community. To many people, he will always be remembered as Coach Roger, and his love for baseball was shared with hundreds of kids over the years. He pioneered travel baseball in the town of Clinton, taking small teams of 10- & 11-year-olds out of town to challenge older, more experienced teams along the shoreline of Connecticut. Roger had the ability to get the best out of his players while always making the game fun. His lessons in sportsmanship, respect, and ethics transcended the game and continue to shape the lives of the kids he coached.
Roger is preceded in death by his loving wife Bonnie Lynn Marcell, his father Sebastian Marcell, mother Barbara Marcell, and brother Charlie Marcell.
