IMG_3140The Amity Spartans Varsity Lacrosse Team had a phenomenal season, the best in years, but last night, their hopes of being named the SCC champions were dashed after a loss to Fairfield Prep in the semifinal game at the Surf Club in Madison.

Amity had a strong first quarter, with Brad Uscilla quickly scoring the first goal with 10:03 remaining, followed by Jake Milner’s goal about 32 seconds later.

Prep scored 21 seconds after Uscilla’a goal, and Amity had a 2-1 lead, but Prep tied the game in the first with 59 seconds left on the clock.

The Jesuits came out with a vengeance in the second scoring four times (Amity’s Uscilla scored with less than 5 minutes left in the quarter) but Prep had a 6-3 lead in the half.

The No. 1 seed Prep defeated the No. 4 Spartans 11-5, knocking them out of the SCC tournament.

Prep (the 3-time defending champions) advances to the championship game against the No. 2 seed, Guilford today in West Haven at 4:30 p.m.

Amity will play in the first round of the state tournament next Wednesday, June 4, against No. 12, McMahon at Amity High School at 4:30 p.m.
