The affection people have for Amity Hockey Coach Gary Lindgren was obvious on Saturday evening as the 2013-14 Hockey team and several former players, along with Amity Principal Charles Britton and Athletic Director Paul Mengold, scores of students and parents whose lives he touched, attended the Relay For Life to see him honored.
Like this years hockey team Lindgren is a fighter. In September he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer and, after several surgeries and chemotherapy, he is soon due to have a pet scan to determine whether or not he’s beat the disease.
Hockey Captain Keating Seymour spoke on behalf of the players, stating that the team dedicated every game to their beloved coach.
Lindgren, who is painfully modest and never seeks to shine a spotlight on himself, gave an emotional speech, which he read from several pages.
He remembered to thank everyone that helped get him through his ordeal.
The audience was spell bound and you could hear a pin drop as he spoke.
