Crews work on Old Tavern Road near the Post Office on Friday afternoon.

Last winter was brutal on the roads resulting in pot holes that seemed to suck cars in.

In the past week or so, the town Highway Department and Tilcon paving have been out tackling the worst hit main thoroughfares.

If you were detoured around Old Tavern Road yesterday (and today) you just have to be patient because the end result will be safer for your car, and more pleasant for you.

On Friday a leveling course (1-inch of asphalt) was laid, and that is followed by an additional 1.5-inch layer and the road is complete.

Indian River Road, a small section of Marsh Hill Road and Robinson Boulevard are complete and Old Tavern Road should be completed today (Saturday).

Prindle Hill Road and another small section of Indian River Road are on the schedule for today.

Wheelers Farm road and Derby-Milford Road  are next in line.

The work that’s been done so far took so much manpower that the side roads had to take a back seat. They will be chip-sealed once everyone is caught up.
