As Orange Live reported at 8:15 a.m. (and followed through to 12:30 p.m.) there was a fatal accident on Route 34 this morning:
Here is a press release regarding the incident:
At 8:05 a.m. on Monday, June 16, the Orange Police Department responded to a serious motor vehicle crash on Derby Avenue (Rte 34) and its intersection with Dogwood and Dogburn Roads.
Upon arrival officers found two vehicles had collided in the intersection and came to rest on the grassy median just west of the intersection.
An AMR Paramedic on scene found one operator had suffered grave injuries.
The driver, identified as Wayne Davis, 60, of Orange was declared deceased on scene.
Mr. Davis was extricated from his vehicle by the Orange Volunteer Fire Department. He was transported by the Office of the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
The driver of the second vehicle, Lyn Hien Le, 41, of East Haven sustained minor injuries and was treated at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
The Orange Police accident reconstruction team responded to the scene. Preliminary findings indicate that Mr. Davis was driving south on Dogburn Road crossing Derby Ave when his vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by Mrs. Le who had been traveling west on Derby Ave.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Any witnesses are asked to contact Officer John Reshotnik at 203-891-2130.
As you read on Orange Live earlier today, both sides of Route 34 were closed for quite some time this morning.
