The consumer advocacy site NerdWallet has analyzed the federal data and found the best places for homeownership in Connecticut, and out of 60 communities Orange ranked among the top ten.
Owning a home in Connecticut can be expensive – that’s why nerdwallet’s methodology rates affordability, as well as population growth and housing availability. Orange scored well by these metrics, boasting a high homeownership rate of 87.4%.

Just a few miles outside New Haven, Orange is proud of its rural roots; indeed, it still maintains some active farmland and puts on a local country fair, with an emphasis on its agricultural origins. Yet the town also takes care to maintain economic viability, housing the North American headquarters for the candy maker Pez, the United Illuminating Company and Southern Connecticut Gas. Efforts by the Orange Economic Development Corporation have also been largely successful, with 32 new businesses in 2012 alone.
