The Republicans on the Finance Committee are having a hearing on Monday, May 11th, regarding the budget and specifically the tax package. It is important that people from the business community attend and testify.
This is a 4.6% and 3.2% increase in spending and approximately a $1.8B tax increase. It circumvents the spending cap by redefining nearly $1.5B of spending on public employee pensions and benefits as not spending subject to the cap. It avoids legislators having to have a 60% vote in each chamber to bypass the spending cap.
It would be great to have the leaders of your organizations standing in front of the room at the outset. The proponents of more spending and more taxes are all over the building. Employers need to mobilize.
The details of the hearing are:
Monday, May 11, @ 1:30 pm in Room 1E of the Legislative Office Building. Sign-up will begin at 10:00 am. Testimony will be 3 minutes. They need 25 copies of your written testimony or file it electronically at: Tara.Frilling@cga.ct.gov
The first hour is for invited speakers.
