More than 20 years ago I was a new employee of the Milford Bob’s Store.

We worked hard setting the store up, getting all of the departments and merchandise just right before the grand opening.

I spent several years there as a cashier and working in the shoe department before finally creating my own job as the “mismate queen.” I set up a system for mating up mismatched shoes and in doing so, saved the company a lot of money.

At the time, Bob’s showed tremendous growth, opening stores, sometimes 2 or 3 at a time in CT and other states.

I expressed my opinion about this, stating publicly that it was too much too soon, and I caught hell for it from my boss.

Within a couple of years some of those stores had closed… so, was I right or was I right?

It’s sad to see the company closing nine of its Connecticut stores, including two that are closest to Orange — Milford and Hamden. As an employee, I received a wonderful discount and my children always had a nice wardrobe and a good variety of shoes.

If you love Bob’s Stores stop by and visit before they’re gone forever.

Here’s a list of the ones that are closing in our state:

  • Danbury
  • Enfield
  • Fairfield – 889 Post Road
  • Hamden
  • Manchester
  • Middletown
  • Milford
  • Simsbury
  • Waterford
