The Amity Spartans hosted the Milford Indians co-op hockey team (Foran/Law/Platt Tech) at the Edward L Bennett Rink in West Haven on Wednesday evening.
Coach Mike “Scooter” Richetelli’s boys came into this game with a mission — they were going to win. At 6:47 Brian Early (#28) made his first career goal, assisted by Jason Csejka (#18) and Jamie Blum (#17). The celebration was fantastic, not only for Early but also his teammates and Spartans fans. Csejka came flying in from the side and lept onto the group — this was a big moment for the entire team.
In the second period, Amity came out strong again with Csejka scoring a goal at 1:19, assisted by Blum. Then, at 4:21 it was Blum’s turn to add a point, assisted by Csejka. At 8:59, Joey Schittina made a goal, assisted by Early and Ken Page.
The Spartans ended the second period with a strong 4-0 lead.
A third of the way into the third period, it looked like the Spartans would be celebrating a shut-out until Milford’s Santiago Palacio was tripped while trying to make a shot and awarded a penalty shot.
With no one else on the ice but Palacio and Amity goaltender Michael Holloway, he took the shot and scored Milford’s only goal at 5:36.
The Spartans won 4-1, improving their record to 3-1. Milford’s record is 2-3.
Amity hosts North Haven at the Edward L Bennett Rink at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6. Come on down and cheer them on. It will be warmer inside than outdoors guaranteed!
