Construction for replacement of the Derby-Milford Road Bridge over the Wepawaug River has begun.

Derby-Milford Road will be closed to traffic between Grassy Hill Road (Rt. 121) and West River Street beginning the week of July 23. The road is currently expected to reopen to traffic before winter.

The start of the bridge project was delayed due to a freeze on state transportation spending, which included funding for this project.

A detour route will be posted using Prudden Lane and North Greenbrier Drive. Alternate routes also are available using Turkey Hill Road or Wheelers Farms Road north of the bridge and Flax Mill Lane and West River Street to the south.

Editor’s Note: Remember, Prudden Lane is a quiet, residential neighborhood, and access to the parkway is normally restricted. Please use caution when taking this route, respect the residents and their property. Don’t speed and keep a close eye out for children.

Information about the project can be obtained by contacting Robert H. Brinton, Jr., P.E., Town Engineer at 203-891-4741.
