The 2013 Freeze Out Shanty Town was huge.

Come support the Orange Congregational Church Youth Group during their annual “Freeze Out,” 6:00 p.m. Friday night, Jan. 25, through 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26.  All night long, the kids will take rotating shifts and stay outside in a cardboard box shanty town in front of the church.

The purpose of this activity is two-fold:  1) to experience even for a short time what it would be like to be homeless and living out in the cold and 2) to raise money to support our mission with Columbus House (a shelter in New Haven).

While there are kids outside in the box, the other kids will be in the church basement with a full evening of activities and presentations.  Some of the activities include Orange Police Officer Chris Brown with his K-9 partner, Loki, and a guest speaker from Columbus House will discuss issues of how to help the homeless.

If you happen to be out and about, driving by the Orange Green Friday night, stop by and talk to the kids, ask them about their experience so far.  If you are moved to make a monetary donation that would be wonderful, checks can be made out to the Orange Congregational Church, put “Freeze Out” in the memo field.  Please show your support even if you just honk as you drive by.  It gets very cold during those dark hours of the night, so any positive reinforcement would be welcome.

If you are unable to drive-by, please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we could equally use that support as well.
