Best Of New HavenIt’s my Birthday on Saturday, and what I would really love to get is just a few minutes of your time.

As you can see from the banner on the left side of the site, it’s the time of year when many local businesses are asking for your support in the Advocate Best of New Haven Reader’s Poll.

Orangectlive.com has been a registered business in the town of Orange since May 2012. Since then, “Orange Live, the best source for 24/7 news in Orange CT” has published more than 3,000 stories, keeping you abreast of everything that’s happening in town without the benefit of a staff.

Orangectlive.com (along with the Orange Live Facebook Page) is a one-person show, photos, meetings, business stories, police and fire coverage, school updates, sports, even the ads are all done by just one Yia Yia — that’s what my granddaughter calls me — even when my computer crashed in December, you still got your news.

All I ask is that every one of the 1,000 people who visit the site today and unique visitors who come on until next Wednesday, take 10 minutes to visit the “Best Of” Poll page, Fill in the voter registration information and click “Vote” to begin, then please vote for orangectlive.com in two categories • Best Local Blogger and • Best Hyperlocal News Site. Both can be found in the Media and Education section.

You must vote in at least 10 categories. But, if you love Orange, there are plenty of Orange businesses and personalities from which to choose. Look for the Orange Ale House, Material Girls, NuVita, Redfish Grill, Georgina Hair Studio, Kaoud Oriental Rug … Even First Selectman Jim Zeoli is listed under the People and Places section.

One ballot per person. They count ballots from this website and paper ballots from this week’s CTNow newspaper. You may submit a paper ballot or an online ballot, but not both.

Online voting ends at 11:59 p.m. EST on Wednesday, March 5th, 2014.

Thank you so much for your time!

The Orange Live Facebook page is the best place to find your Orange News. There are others like Orange Connecticut that residents and people from across the country enjoy for its hometown charm and conversation.

When I started Orange Live Last May, I made a promise not to take the easy way out by finding cute tidbits of information from around the region or depend on bloggers to fill space.

I accepted Meteorologist Kevin Arnone’s offer to link to his weather page, because he’s an Amity Grad with access to all the weather information he needs to give us up to date local weather.

If someone asks a question on facebook, I will answer it as soon as possible. When I see that you’ve posted an event on facebook, I’ll do a writeup and put it on the news site and then cross post to facebook to give your event maximum exposure without you having to worry about posting it yourself.

Check out the Orange Live Facebook page and Like It to stay on top of what’s going on in Orange.

Nov 032012

When it became evident that a storm would ruin the second consecutive Halloween Night for the town’s youngsters, Brad Marcus decided to make a difference.

He consulted with Jim Zeoli and received approval to host a townwide Trunk or Treat Halloween celebration to help keep the Halloween Spirit alive and kicking as close to the actual holiday as possible.

The Motto: “We won’t let Sandy take our candy!”

Marcus put together a little marquee sign to place in front of High Plains Community Center and made up fliers that he and his daughters passed around.

Trunk or Treat will take place on Saturday, Nov. 3 on the Fairgrounds, Orange Center Road, from 5-7 p.m.

All kids under 18 are invited to dress up and get free candy.

So, why is it called Trunk or Treat? Trunkers are asked to arrive around 4 p.m. but before 4:45 p.m. to park and set up their car in the assigned area. — For safety reasons, the area will be closed off at 4:45 p.m. Cars cannot enter the Trunk or Treat zone after 4:45 p.m. or leave before 7 p.m. — After you park open your trunk or hatchback, decorated it with Halloween decorations and fill it with treats.

At 5 p.m. the kids will go from car to car, showing off their costumes and collecting treats.

The only ocst for the event is the treats that you bring to give oout to the kids.

For more information or to sign up, call 203-848-4704.

Registration is not necessary but appreciated.
