Screen Shot 2015-04-07 at 3.48.09 PMConnecticut’s Beardsley Zoo, 1875 Noble Avenue, Bridgeport, will host its annual “Wild Wine, Beer & Food Safari” fundraiser at the Zoo on Saturday, June 6 from 6-9 p.m.

  • Standard tickets are $60 each
  • Parties of 4 or more will receive each standard ticket for $55
  • VIP Tickets at $100 each entitle you to an exclusive “Behind the Scenes” with our animals from 4:30-5:30 p.m. pre-event
  • Tickets at the gate are $65 if available

The event includes a large variety of different wines and a huge selection of specialty beers.

The evening’s festivities also include live entertainment, silent auction and raffle.

unnamedIt’s that time of year again, Amity High School will present the Annual 24 Hour Play Festival on Saturday May 16 at 7 p.m.

Students will begin Friday afternoon and work until Saturday Night to create a short one act play in just 24 Hours!

The show will take place in the Black Box Theater at 7 p.m.

Admission is free but donations for the Relay for Life Teams will be gratefully accepted.

Overall Winner Bill Koltnow, 55, races toward the finish line.

Only about 100 people participated in the Cohen and Wolf Cinco K De Mayo 5K on Sunday, May 3, which included plenty of 20-somethings and experienced distance runners so Bill Koltnow, 55, of Miami, FLA, surprised spectators when he crossed the finish line at 19:05, just 14 seconds before 14-year-0ld Anthony Tom.

The first female, Polly Grzegorczyk, 23, of Orange, came in just 2:03 later at 21:08.

Dan Leiper, 51, who has been running since he was 15, took the gold medal for his age group with a time of 21:27.

Cohen and Wolf, Orange Life Magazine, Stony Creek Urgent Care and Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Centers, each had teams that participated in the race.

 

Some were a part of the event. Dr. Durso from Advanced Spine and Sport offered his adjustment services. Smoothie King handed out dairy free fruit smoothies to the incoming runners.

race17073-logo.bvdgelThe Cohen and Wolf Cinco K De Mayo – 5K Road Race will step off at the High Plains Community Center, 525 Orange Center Road, Sunday, May 3, at 10 a.m.

Dri-fit tee-shirts will be given to the first 400 registrants.

The course is a 5k run or 2 mile walk in Orange, beginning at the High Plains Community Center.

Fee is $25/runners and walkers for race day registration.

Residents may purchase a purple mylar balloon to raise cancer awareness with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life, which takes place at the Orange Fairgrounds, Saturday, May 30 – Sunday, May 31.

Each Balloon costs $5, paid in advance and on May 17, the balloon(s) will be delivered to your home and tied to your mailbox.

This is a simple way to help raise money for cancer research.

Deadline in which to order balloons is this Friday, May 1.

If you would like to help Paint The Town Purple, call Relay Chairman Lynn Plaskowitz at 203-627-1673.

Order forms are available at Town Hall in the lower lobby or in the tax collector’s office.

chips biz card adThe fourth annual Pancakes for Parkinson’s fundraising supper will take place at Chip’s Family Restaurant, 321 Boston Post Road, on Tuesday, April 28, with four seatings for dinners: 4:30, 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.

Supper includes two pancakes, two eggs, bacon or sausage, and coffee or tea, all for $12.

Tickets may be pre-ordered or purchased at the door.

Proceeds will benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research to help find a cure for the millions suffering from Parkinson’s Disease. Chip’s is donating all the food for the meal.

Raffle tickets will be sold for prizes including an Ipad, gourmet baskets, wine and more.

Orange resident can get in a practice run before the Cinco k de Miles race while supporting a good cause.
Active Health is sponsoring a 5K Run to Benefit The Maren Sanchez Memorial Scholarship Fund taking place on Saturday, April 25 at 9:30 a.m. at Jonathan Law High School, 20 Lansdale Avenue in Milford.
This 5K is part of a larger celebration taking place that day called Peace, Love & Music from Maren to honor the life of Maren Sanchez.
All proceeds from the day will go to the Maren Sanchez Memorial Scholarship fun, which gives back to the graduating seniors at Jonathan Law High School, a place Maren adored.

A fundraiser to benefit the Amity High School Football Program will take place at the Orange Ale House, 517 Boston Post Road, on Saturday, April 18 beginning at 6 p.m.

Ticket cost is $25 and includes a buffet style meal and drink ticket.

Raffle prizes will be awarded to lucky participants.

All proceeds go to the Spartans Football program.

In 2015, the Amity Football Team will be under the leadership of new head coach, 29-year-old Amity Grad Ted Czepiga of Bethany.

IMG_0732-200x300Orange Community Services will present its first Food And Fuel Bank Benefit Concert “Spring Into Action,” at the High Plains Community Center, tonight, Friday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m.

The concert will feature Orange resident Gary Harger with Art Bellucci on piano. Special guests include Barbie Harger and the Orange Chorale.

Musical selections from Broadway, the American Songbook and songs about Spring – the season of renewal will be featured.

After the concert a reception will take place in the cafeteria.

All proceeds from this event will benefit the Orange Community Assistance Programs, which includes the Food and Fuel Bank.

Come support these vital programs.

Tickets are $20 and are available at the Community Services Department or by calling 203-891-4788.
