The Orange Lions Club began the tradition of a Thanksgiving Dinner for seniors.
The Lions extended this invitation to all Orange Residents on the Sunday after Thanksgiving in 1989. It met with some resistance in the beginning but the Club prevailed and this will be their 30th dinner.
The town of Orange graciously allows the Lions to use their kitchen facilities at High Plains Community Center. To see the gym transformed into a decorated dining room with many of their guests enjoying themselves is a sight to behold. This has become one of the highlights of the holiday season. While it requires volunteers and a good amount of effort, the Lions truly enjoy cooking together and serving this meal. It is one of their favorite undertakings.
In order to have enough food for everyone, the Lions asked that anyone wanting to attend register with Orange Community Services by Friday, Nov. 23. If you don’t make it this year, don’t worry, the Lions will be back with the 31st annual dinner next November.
Call Community Services at 203-891-4788 for reservations. Reservations are needed.
