There is one very disturbing trend that we see every year around graduation week, and that is the THEFT of congratulatory balloons from the tri-town area.

Kids, remember, if you didn’t get any balloons of your own, you do not have the right to STEAL someone else’s.

Last year in Orange, someone or a couple of people went around and cut the strings on bundles of balloons, at the expense of the family members who dished out $5 each for the gifts.

It is uncertain if the nasty culprits simply let the helium filled mylar balloons fly or if they took them for themselves. In either instance it is wrong. The loose balloons most likely will end up killing sea turtles or whales (so congratulations, genius).  And the sudden appearance of these grad balloons on your own mailbox several days after the deliveries were completed, earmark you as a selfish individual.

If the individual(s) is/are caught they could face charges of criminal mischief or sixth-degree larceny (depending on just how many balloons you stole) and won’t it be embarrassing to have THAT on your record when you go for a job interview? — It tells a LOT about your character.

Do you know a Graduating Amity Regional High School Senior? Make that senior smile by sending a “Congratulations Amity Grad” Balloon.

The Amity High School P.T.S.O. is once again sponsoring “Operation Graduation 2017 Balloons” for Amity Seniors.  The balloons will be delivered and tied to the graduate’s mailbox before graduation over the course of 2 days June 10th and June 12th.

Let’s celebrate our graduating seniors and support Amity Regional High School.

Proceeds go to the Amity High School P.T.S.O., including the P.T.S.O. Scholarship Fund.

You now have two ways to order balloons.  You may order online or by using this order form. Orders are due June 5th.

If you have any spare time, please consider helping inflate and/or deliver balloons. It really is a lot of fun!

Please consider signing up for a time. If you can only do an hour, that is fine.  Please include your e-mail address in the comment section of the doodle sign up.  We appreciate any time you can give to this event. Any questions can be directed to Kathy Sabitsky at  ksabitsky@gmail.com. Thank you for your support.

A longtime volunteer said, “This is one of the most rewarding things I do every year. I meet new people and have so much fun. Sometimes I inflate the balloons, and sometimes I just load my car and deliver them.”

From Amity Principal Charles Britton:

Please help! This afternoon, the Amity PTSA began inflating hundreds of balloons. The balloons are now ready for delivery.

The PTSA is in desperate need of drivers to deliver all the balloons. The task involves picking up balloons at the high school, delivering the balloons to the addresses of graduating seniors, and tying the balloons to the graduate’s mailbox.

If you have a vehicle (preferably an SUV) and a few hours tonight or tomorrow, please help.

Please contact Linda Ferranti at (203) 671-3241 or linferranti@yahoo.com if you can help, or just hop in your car and come on over to the high school – the balloons are bundled and ready for delivery.

EDITOR’S NOTE: I helped inflate and deliver balloons for the first time this year. It didn’t take much time and I felt happy when I completed my deliveries knowing how good seeing the balloons would make the graduating student. I’m going back now, hope to see you there.
