Damon Robinson

We have some very sad news to share. Orange native Damon Robinson, an Amity Grad, talented athlete and much loved friend and classmate has died.

Back in 2014, the Amity Boys Lacrosse Team was smoking hot, with great names like Choiniere, Uscilla, Burns, Sember, Coassin, King, Cala, Sullivan, Pignataro, DiMauro and Robinson.

Many of these fine athletes are now playing Lacrosse in colleges and universities across the USA.

Sadly, on October 6, 2016 we were informed that Damon (#17), who also wrestled at Amity, was suffering severe brain damage in a Neurological Intensive Care Unit after being assaulted by a group of people over the weekend. (He lived in Orlando, Fla.)

Defenseman Damon Robinson #17

Damon had been in and out of consciousness and every day was a struggle as he fought through this challenge.

After five days in the NICU Damon was moved to the Neurological Medicine floor and friends were optimistic for his recovery.

Almost immediately he was relocated to a different hospital with a better neurological unit where he would receive better care for his needs.

It’s been nearly five months since the attack and this young man’s family and friends are mourning his death (March 2, 2017)

A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help his family with “Damon Robinson’s Memorial Expenses.

Orange Live will update you on any funeral or memorial services that are planned for Damon.

We offer our condolences to his family and friends at this very difficult time.

LAX alumni ALL 6-7-15

On Sunday, June 7, the Amity Spartans lacrosse team went up against some old teammates and some legendary players for the Alumni Lacrosse Game.

The Alumni won “a lot to a little” according to coach Brandon Pepe. “But this game was not about win or lose, it was about having the boys see where this program can take them. It was great seeing the alumni wearing their Division 1 helmets.”

— Excellent colleges recruit great Lacrosse players.

All the athletes played like champions, and it was nice seeing the best of Amity’s current team holding their own against the big name players from the past.

Some of the “old men” hadn’t seen one another since graduation in 2009, and were greeted with bear hugs before the game.

Among the Alumni were:

Brandon Capuano (’12) – Played at Penn State

Varsity Lacrosse Mom Peggy Choiniere said, “Thank you to everyone who came out and supported the Amity Lacrosse team at our fundraiser dance. It was a HUGE success!”

Amity sports parents are tight-knit groups. The sidelines are filled with enthusiastic sports fans, who come together at each game not only to watch their kids play, but to catch up with one another.

One such bunch of dedicated parents  is the Amity Lacrosse group, (Freshman, JV and Varsity) who get to know one another at their annual pot luck dinner at the High School and this Friday, will host a fundraiser for the teams at Lakeview Lodge at the Veteran’s Memorial Park in Bethany to benefit all three teams.

Bring your own snacks and drinks and the Lacrosse “family” will provide the entertainment. And entertaining it is! Cougar Slayer (formerly “Old Skool”)  with longtime band mates  Eddie Choiniere, Bill Conners, and Dave Cadelina along with drummer Chris Donlon.

If you’ve never heard the band you are in for a treat. Admission is $25.  All the money benefits the three Amity Boys Lacrosse teams, which, as we know are not funded by the school.

So come on up to the lodge Friday, April 26 at 7 p.m. for a fun night of fellowship, dancing and great music by the Old Boys from Amity “Cougar Slayer.”
