Jul 202012

Orange Town Clerk Pat O’Sullivan reminds residents that absentee ballots for the August 14 primary will be available beginning Tuesday, July 24.  Applications are now available in the Town Clerk’s Office.

The Town Clerk’s office needs the help of the families in town to alert them if someone is in the military and to provide an address to this office or the Registrars of Voters.  The law enables the Registrars of Voters or the Town Clerk to direct a ballot to military personnel and their families.

An application form (ED-3) for a ballot is available in the Orange Town Clerks’ office or on the Secretary of the State’s website www.sots.state.ct.us which copy should be completed and mailed to the Orange Town Clerk, 617 Orange Center Road, Orange, CT  06477.

Application should be made as soon as possible to be sure a ballot has time to be sent to applicant and returned to the town clerk before 4:30 p.m. on election day.

The Senior Resource Directory is a valuable handbook for every household.

Each year the Orange Community Services Department in conjunction with the Leadership Center at the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Senior Leadership Program, a six month program for Orange residents over the age of 55, which began in 2006.

The Senior Center is now accepting applications for the Class of 2013, from which 15 residents will be chosen to participate.

The class will meet one Wednesday a month from September 2012 through May 2013, and take part in leadership workshops with topics including community history and development, environment, education, community policing, communications and the media, the arts, Connecticut State government, town government, and regional issues. The program culminates in a group community service project that benefits the town. Graduation will take place in June.

The program is funded by the Orange Senior Center and $100 tuition for the 9-months of activities is paid by each participant.

Past graduates rave about their experiences there. This is a wonderful program and each class leaves its mark on the town with great community projects like the Handyman Skills Bank and the Senior Resource Directory.
