All of the signs, at Bertucci’s Restaurant, 550 Boston Post Road, including the big square one near the street and all identifiers on the building itself, are gone.
Bertucci’s based in Boston filed for bankruptcy protection and closed a total of 15 locations, including three in CT: Orange, Southington, and Manchester, all were stripped of identifying markers and quietly shut down.
No one in the Town Hall was notified, including First Selectman Jim Zeoli, who said he’d only heard about it from a resident and me today. Most employees were informed on Sunday night that this was their last service.
The Newington Restaurant was spared, as were 59 other locations up and down the east coast.
The casual family-friendly eatery will be missed, especially by those of us who contributed to the decor when the restaurant contacted us for photos for their wall murals. My favorites were those that I took of then K-9 officer Mike Kosh and his handsome partner, the late Maximus (Max to those who knew him and loved him.) And a huge photo on the opposite wall of members of the Orange Volunteer Fire Department. Both graced the front foyer.
Bertucci’s was a go-to place for fundraising events, the police department had Tip-a-Cop fundraisers, Schools, Scout Troops, church organizations and so many more loved this Restaurant.
