IMG_9346Another very successful Shredding Day event took place at the High Plains Community Center parking lot on Saturday, June 25 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Orange Recycling Committee Chairman Mitch Goldblatt said, “More than 130 Orange Residents brought about 11,000 pounds of documents to be shredded by Affordable Solutions, LLC of Orange.”

In addition, the Rotary Club of Orange collected about 30 bicycles that will be given to BEEEP Inc. (Bicycle Education, Entrepreneurship and Enrichment Program). BEEEP is a New Haven-based non-profit program that recycles bicycles and teaches repair and riding skills.

Goldblatt added, “Special thanks goes to the Rotary Club who sponsored this event for us and allowed this to once again be free of charge to Orange residents. Finally, the Rotarians collected hundreds of dollars in donations for the Orange Rotary Scholarship Fund.”

“We had lots of help today and truly many hands do make light work,” Goldblatt said. “I would like to acknowledge the following people and apologize in advance for anyone I missed:”

Screen Shot 2016-06-19 at 3.12.27 PMThe Orange Recycling Committee has been serving the town of Orange for several years, providing valuable information about recycling both locally and globally on the town website and its Facebook page.

The volunteer committee is very active, and one of the busiest of its kind in the area.

This weekend, members Tom George, Kathy LaFontana, Chris Prokop and Mitch Goldblatt dedicated several hours to helping residents at HazWaste Central at the Regional Water Authority in New Haven.

Next Saturday, June 25, they will join the Orange Rotary Club at High Plains for a popular free shredding day for Orange residents, which will include a bicycle donation opportunity.
