On Monday, Feb. 18, the Blades (Amity, Cheshire, North Haven) girls’ Ice Hockey team hosted the Guilford Indians for the SCC South Quarter Final game in Hamden.

The Blades had a shaky start to the regular season this year, but once they figured things out, they never looked back, and the run for the SCC title is off to a good start.

The Blades took this one 5-3.

In the first period, the Blades came out strong, taking the lead with goals from Haley Cable, assisted by Andrea DelVecchio and DelVecchio netting one, assisted by Cable and Caroline Cadelina.

Then, Guilford’s Madison Epke fought back with a goal for the Indians, assisted by Daniella Vickerman.

Score: 3-1 Blades

Cadelina made the only goal in the second period, assisted by Tess Csejka.

Score: 3-1 Blades

Returning to the ice for the third period, Epke scored for the Indians again, assisted by Vickerman.

Shannon Reilly moved the Blades further ahead with a goal, assisted by DelVecchio. Then, Cadelina scored again.

Guilford’s Vickerman made the final goal, assisted by Audrey Rowen and Olivia Gill.

Final Score: 5-3 Blades

The Goaltenders were busy during this game. The Blades’ Caitlin Ranciato made 24 saves, and Brielle Kendrioski made 20 saves for Guilford.

Blades Advance to the Semi-Final.

The Blades (Amity/Cheshire/North Haven) girls ice hockey team welcomed Guilford at Hamden on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m.

After a season-starting dry spell, the Blades have been playing strong during the past few games and demonstrating all of the crowd-pleasing skills we’d grown accustomed to in past years.

The Blades owned the first period with Tess Csjeka showing them how it’s done. Her first goal was assisted by Andrea DelVecchio; a second was unassisted and the third — Hat Trick — was assisted by Carsyn Rizzuti and Ilana Laynar.

First Period Score – 3-0 Blades

The second period also was dominated by the Blades. Mia Dow scored the first goal, assisted by Nadia DiNatale. Guilford made a move with Daniella Vickerman getting the Indians up on the scoreboard, assisted by Jacquelyn Violette.

DelVecchio scored for the Blades, assisted by Caroline Cadelina, followed by a Haley Cable goal, assisted by Csejka.

Second Period Score – 6-1 Blades

The Blades came out looking sharp in the third period as well. Shannon Reilly got one past the Indian’s goalie, Julia McDonald, assisted by Cable and DelVecchio.

Guilford answered with a goal by Violette, assisted by Vickerman.

Final Score – 7-2 Blades

Saves: Caitlyn Ranciato made 9 stops for the Blades; McDonald made 23 saves for the Indians.

The Blades Girls Ice Hockey team (Amity/North Haven/Cheshire) was on the road in East Haven on Saturday, Dec. 15 for a game against the always strong Guilford team.

In the first period, the Blades’ Caroline Cadelina put her team up on the board first with an unassisted goal.

Guilford’s Danialla Vickerman tied things up on an assist from Jacquelyn Violette and Madison Epke. Then Lily Mackey pulled Guilford into the lead assisted by Sydney Miles.

Score: 2-1 Guilford

In the second period, Miles scored an unassisted goal, followed by an additional point by Olivia Gill, assisted by Madison Epke

The Blades’- Haley Cable narrowed the score on an assist from Shannon Reilly and Mia Dow.

Score: 4-2 Guilford

The Blades battled in the third period, determined not to lose this matchup. Andrea DelVecchio made a goal assisted by Meaghan Hogan and Shannon Reilly, bringing the score to 4-3, but that was the best they could do.

The Blades lost to Guilford.

Blades Goalie Caitlin Ranciato worked so hard and made a difference.

Records: Blades 0-3, Guilford 1-1

The Blades next game is on Wednesday at their home ice – Hamden Ice Rink at 8 p.m. They’ll be playing West Haven – SHA (2-0 both of which were shutouts).

The Blades girls Ice hockey team (Amity/Cheshire/North Haven) hosted the Guilford Indians in Shelton on Thursday, Feb. 8.

The Blades’ Cally Dixon’s Hat Trick helped the Blades defeat Guilford 7-1. Improving their record to 14-4.

First Period

Dixon got things started with a goal for the home team, assisted by Tess Csejka

Melissa Montesi scored next on assists from Csejka and Meaghan Hogan.

Then Nadia DiNatale finished the period with a goal, assisted by Shannon Reilly and Grace Kosh.

Score: 3-0 Blades

Second Period

Dixon scored the first period of this period assisted by Csejka and Megan Spring.

Then Dixon scored her third goal — HAT TRICK! — assisted by Reilly.

Hogan made an unassisted goal, followed by Csejak on an assist from Dixon, then Grace Kosh rounded things up with an unassisted goal.

Score: 6-0 Blades.

Third Period

Things were already looking great for the Blades when Olivia Dittmann added one more point to the tally.

Then, just to keep the Indians from being shut out, Guilford’s Kate Hagness made her team’s first and only goal unassisted.

Final Score: 7-1 Blades

The Blades outshot the Indians 22-16
