The Blades Girls Ice Hockey Team (Amity/Cheshire/North Haven) had a home game in Hamden on Saturday, Jan. 12 against Hamden at 2:30 p.m.

Unfortunately, this time all I can provide is the scoreboard, as the game sheet was not available.

The first period ended in a 2-2 tie. Then Hamden pulled ahead in the second with one goal (3-2-Hamden).

The Blades came alive in the third period with two goals, and Hamden tied it up with one of their own, resulting in a 4-4 tie and forcing the game into overtime.

Both teams had 8 minutes to win this thing, but it was Hamden that broke the tie and skated away with a 5-4 victory

Records: Blades 3-8, Hamden 6-5

Next Up for the Blades: HOME matchup with Masuk/Barlow/Newtown/Lauralton (0-9) at the Hamden Ice Rink on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 4:30 p.m.

The Amity/North Haven/ Cheshire coop team (known as the Blades) played a scrimmage game against Hall/Conard at Veterans Rink in West Hartford on Wednesday, Dec. 5.

We’ve come to know the Blades as nearly unbeatable in past years, but new season, new team, you can never tell how things will go.

Last night wasn’t their night, they lost to Hall/Conard 5-2.  The good news is that as a scrimmage, it doesn’t reflect on their season record either, and these girls have a long way to go until the end of the season. There are several familiar names still on the roster too.

Here’s how the game went last night.

First Period

Hall/Conard’s Nikki Herz scored the first goal off an assist from Luci Alissi.

Score 1-0 HC

Second Period

Our Blades’ Andrea DelVecchio tied the game off an assist from Shannon Reilly.

HC’s Maya Borden made an unassisted goal. Then, Abby Goncalves scored, assisted by Gracie Cho.

Score 3-1 HC

Third Period

Out of the gate, the Blades’ Meaghan Hogan scored on an assist from Tess Csejka.

HC forged ahead with an unassisted goal by Liv Fernandez, followed by the winning goal by Claire Ittleson, assisted by Nikki Herz.

Final Score 5-2 Hall/Conard

The Blades (Amity/Cheshire/North Haven) Girls Ice Hockey team had a phenomenal regular season and made it all the way to the State Quarterfinal game against Suffield in Enfield today.

We’ve come to respect this team’s spirit and athletic ability this season. From the very first scrimmage, we knew they would make it to the State Tourney and hoped they could make it to the end.

This game was a heartbreaker, so close.

Here’s what happened:

First Period

The first period was scoreless, with both goalies working hard to keep it that way.

Second Period

Suffield’s Sophie Lupone was the first to score, assisted by Molly Dowd just 3:21 after returning to the ice.

With 6:12 remaining in the period, Tess Csejka tied the game for the Blades on an assist from Megan Spring.

Third Period

With the determination that we’ve seen all season long, the Blades quickly pulled ahead with Melissa Montesi’s goal, assisted by Cally Dixon.

It only took 20 seconds for Suffield’s Ana Tittmann to tie the game with an unassisted goal.

The girls battled for possession and the goalies blocked as many shots as they could, then, with just 7:28 remaining in the game, Sophie Lupone, assisted by Sydney Lupone got one past the Blades Juliana Daddio.

Final Score: Suffield 3, Blades 2
