The Case Memorial Library, 176 Tyler City Road, Orange, offers the following events this month.

 

Color War
Tuesday, July 16, 3:30 p.m.
Prepare to get messy! Tweens will be playing an epic game of capture the flag with color powder, which will be used to “color-tag” the other teams! This program will take place on the lawn behind the library, and is open to tweens entering grades 4-6. Registration is required. Parents must sign their tween up in the Children’s Room. Registration cannot be completed over the phone or online. If you have any questions, please call the library at 203-891-2170.

Oscar Film: Can You Ever Forgive Me?

Chess Club

Come join our chess club! This club is open to beginners and experienced players. During our meetings, children and tweens will be able to learn about this strategic board game and play against other club members. Feel free to bring your own chess board as the library has a small supply. For children and tweens in grades 1-6. Willie and Jan Duo will perform the tunes of Paul Simon, the Everly Brothers, the Beatles, Sonny and Cher, and many more favorites from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Come and relive fond memories of the era of rock and roll.
Internet Basics
Tuesday, August 14, 10:30 a.m.
Are you an internet novice in need of more information?  In this class, you’ll learn basic internet terminology and how to navigate a browser, locate a website, identify common domains and stay safe while searching. Registration is required.
The Science of Baseball (STEM)
Tuesday, August 14, 2 p.m.
Tweens will be able to hone their baseball skills and learn about the sweet spot in a baseball bat, why a curve ball curves, what’s a baseball actually made of and more. Weather permitting, tweens will be able to go outside and practice their pitching using what they learned. Grades 4-6.
Teen Craft: Marbled Canvases
Wednesday, August 15, 2 p.m.
Paint your own custom canvas art using a marbling technique. For teens entering grades 6-12.


Summer Reading Finale: Bryson Lang’s The Cure for the Common Show

For children of all ages.  Celebrate your summer reading success with a one-of-a-kind performance!  Bryson Lang incorporates audience participation, ball bouncing and spinning, juggling, improvisation, glow-in-the-dark objects, giant beach balls, and exciting surprises into every show.

An Afternoon with Nat King Cole
Saturday, February 18, 1 p.m.
Join the Jim Scianna Trio, featuring bassist Jim Scianna, vocalist Atla DeChamplain, and pianist Matt DeChamplain, as they present songs and arrangements in the style of vocalist, pianist, and bandleader Nat King Cole. Registration is required. Presented by the Friends of the Library.

Battery Motor Making

thThe Case Memorial Library, 176 Tyler City Road will host the Bookcase Book Discussion Group on Thursday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m. 

This month’s book, Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee tells the story of 26-year-old Jean Louise Finch — “Scout” — as she returns home from New York City to visit her aging father, Atticus. Her homecoming turns bittersweet when she learns disturbing truths about her close-knit family, the town, and the people dearest to her.
