With the Amity Lacrosse Season beginning tomorrow, Orange Live asked Coach Brandon Pepe for his thoughts on the 2016 team.

Here’s what he said:

We have a lot of talent returning to our roster, coming off an 11-7 season and a first round loss to CIAC state champion Darien. We have a very balanced roster coming into the season, and are expecting another great season.

We are led by our four senior captains, Mikey Pretlove, Mike DeVito, Ian MacDonald, and Sam King.

A memory from the 2014 Amity LAX season.

A memory from the 2014 Amity LAX season.

Anthony Uscilla and Tyler Vincent, along with co-captain Ian MacDonald will start at Attack.

Sam King leads the midfield, along with Mike Cavanagh, Ryan Rattley, and Mark DellaTorre.

The defense is led by co-captains Mikey Pretlove, a 3 year starter, and Mike DeVito. James Cofrancesco will start alongside them, and Greg Pignataro will see extended playing time as a defensive midfielder.

In goal we have Matt Perrotti, who gained valuable experience last season as a sophomore. He looks poised in the net so far, and we expect great things from him.

We have a good mix of senior leadership and talented underclassmen. I have been impressed with many of our young sophomores including midfielders Luke Smith and Matt Weidenfeller, and defenseman Paul Buda. All will get significant playing time. We have a very demanding schedule this year, and will be playing in a lot of close games.

We play in one of the best lacrosse conferences in the country. One of our most important pieces on the team is our faceoff specialist, Cory Sachs. Cory is excellent at his craft, and able to get us extra possessions with his faceoff abilities. That is a huge asset to the team.

Overall, the team is very focused and excited heading into our first game this week.

The first game is HOME against New Milford on Saturday, April 2 at 12 p.m. NOTE: Boys Lacrosse start time postponed to 4pm today on field #3.

IMG_6575So, just how good is the Amity Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team? With a record of 13-3, this is the winningest regular season in the history of Amity Lacrosse, according to coach Brandon Pepe.
The Spartans hosted the Gaels on Senior Day, Thursday, May 22 in Woodbridge.
Junior Brad Uscilla was the high scorer in this game, with 4 goals, followed by Senior Captain Joe Choiniere with 3 goals and 2 assists.
Junior Jake Milner made 1 gaol and had 2 assists; Seniors Johnny Uscilla, Mike Cala, Steve Sember and Dave Buono each made 1 goal in their final home game of the season.
Junior Tyler Burns had 2 assists.
Coach Pepe was proud of his boys. “It was great to get a win on Senior Day. These 17 boys put in a lot of hard work over their four years with the program, and they definitely deserved to win this game,” he said. “We started out controlling the ball for most of the first quarter which lead to a 5-0 lead. The boys really wanted to come out and make a statement and get our 13th win.”
The Spartans outshot the Gaels 23-16 in this 12-4 Amity win.
Shelton’s Chris Schiffer, Kyle Drost, Jesse Gill-Lopez, and T Jones each scored 1 goal for the Gaels.
After this loss, Shelton’s season record is 9-7.
The Spartans have an away conference game at Fairfield Prep on Wednesday, May 28 at 4 p.m.

The Amity Varsity Lacrosse Team took on Fairfield Prep in Woodbridge Monday afternoon.

Prep is the 2 time defending state champion, and will certainly be in the mix again this year. They’ve been the best team in our conference for the most part of the past decade.

Amity lost this one 5-11. Their record stands at 9-3 (Prep is at 8-4).

After the game, Coach Brandon Pepe said, “We came out strong and fearless with nothing to lose, and scored the first goal. We had a couple of letdowns late in the first half and they took advantage of them. You have to play nearly perfect lacrosse for 48 minutes to beat a superior team like Fairfield Prep. We obviously didn’t do that today, but we were competitive and played hard the whole game. There are a lot of positives to take away from the effort today. We feel like we can run with Prep, and hope to get the chance to play them again in the SCC tournament.”

Pepe added, “We barely have time to let the loss sink in as we will play a good 9-1 Foran team at home tomorrow, (Today) Tuesday, May 13. Overall, we are playing good lacrosse right now, and if we continue to get better everyday then we should be able to do some damage in upcoming conference and state tournaments (SCC and CIAC).”

The game by the numbers:
