The Amity Spartans Boys Lacrosse Team was on the road for a match-up against the Green Knights at Notre Dame – West Haven on Monday afternoon.

The Spartans showed their skills in the first quarter, leading the Greenies 3-2, but then Notre Dame took over the game, in the second, scoring five goals to Amity’s one, taking a 7-4 lead.

Amity made plenty of shots and hit the rim several times, or saw goalie Khorbin Kern snatch the ball before it went in, preventing them from scoring in the third. Notre Dame netted three goals, advancing to a 10-4 lead.

The Green Knights continued their assault on Spartans Goalie Dane Walsh, making four more goals in the final quarter, but Amity was able to score one last goal in the fourth, ending the game at 14-5 Notre Dame.

Harrison Blume, Adam Cusano, Jay Perrotti, and Chris Bierezovic each scored for the Spartans.

Notre Dame-West Haven’s Ben Hassen led the Green Knights to victory with 5 goals and 2 assists.

Both of the Goalies fought hard during this battle. Amity’s Dane Walsh made 18 saves. Khorbin Kern made 15 saves for Notre Dame.

Records: Amity 5-10, Notre Dame 9-6.

The Amity Spartans Varsity Lacrosse Team had another stellar game this week, beating the Green Dragons in Hamden 16-2 on Monday night.

Amity got off to a strong start with seven goals in the first quarter.

With the Spartans clearly ahead, Hamden’s Zach Jolles, scored the Green Dragon’s first goal in the second quarter, and Amity tacked on 2 more. Ending that quarter 9-1.

Jolles came back in the third period with Hamden’s second and last goal of the game and Amity added 5 more goals.  Ending the third quarter with a score of 14-2.

In the final quarter the Spartans tacked on 2 more, winning the game 16-2.

Hamden’s Angel Dimonaco had 1 assist.

Break-Down

Jake Milner had 4 goals, 2 assists; Joe Choiniere had 3 goals, 5 assists; Matt Milner had 2 goals, 2 assists; Tyler Burns had 2 goals, 2 assists.

Also, Steven Sember, Jesse Cala, Matt Attolino, Nick Coassin and Ajay King scored 1 goal each.
Casey Grenier and John Pignataro each had 1 assist.

Hamden Goalie Tom Scott had 13 saves; Amity’s James Chapman had 4 saves and Evan Campbell had 3.

Team records: Amity 5-3; Hamden 4-4

Amity co-captain Joey Choiniere was named the top player of the game and the New Haven Register pegged him as a Lacrosse Star of the week.

IMG_0255_The Amity Spartans Lacrosse team competed against the Jonathan Law Lawmen in Milford on Tuesday night.

Law’s Lacrosse program is in its first year, and the boys played hard and with a lot of heart. But Amity started off strong, 4 goals in the first quarter, 6 in the second, and never let go of the lead.

The Spartans outshot the Lawmen 25-9. Law’s goal tender Dylan Lucas made 6 saves; Amity’s Jimmy Steinbrick made 6 and Evan Campbell had 1.

In the second quarter, Law’s Jarrod Butts made their only goal of the game, Dylan Hallett is credited with an assist.

Many of Amity’s players were able to score that night. Matt Milner and Sean Grenier both scored 2 goals and Milner also had 2 assists. Steven Sember had 1 goal and 2 assists; Jake Milner had 1 goal and 1 assist.

In addition, other Amity goals came from Brad Uscilla 1; Eric Dykun 1; ; Jesse Cala 1; Mike Cala 1; Matt Attolino 1; David Buono 1; John Pignataro 1; Joe Choiniere 1; and Ajay King 1.

Other assists were by Nick Mazzacco 1; John Uscilla 1; Nick Coassin 1; and Kyle Sullivan 1.

Coach Brandon Pepe said, “Today we had a couple of  nice plays by our captain Joey Choiniere, (we had) a couple of nice goals, our man-up team was really good in executing their plays. They did what they were supposed to do today.”
