The Orange FoundationThe Orange Foundation, a community trust fund for Orange founded in 1974 by Charles Flynn, Esq. invites residents to apply for scholarships and grants to be awarded in the spring of 2015.

Applications are now being accepted for both scholarships and grants and can be obtained at the Case Memorial Library, at Town Hall or online by sending a request to Janice Lettick at [email protected].  Scholarship applications are also available in school guidance counselors’ offices. Orange residents who are graduating seniors from any secondary school are eligible.

The submission deadline for scholarship applications is Wednesday, April 15. Completed applications should be sent to The Orange Foundation, P.O. Box 729, Orange, CT 06477. The Distribution Committee will review the material and recipients will be notified in early June.

Since 1974, the Orange Foundation has distributed more than $379,825.00 in scholarships. Financial support comes from The Charles Flynn Fund, the Harry Haynes Fund, the Thomas Birmingham Fund, the William Knight Scholarship Fund, the Vaughn Family Scholarship Fund, and the Elizabeth C, and John W. Povilaitis Community Fund.

The submission deadline for grants for projects benefitting the residents of Orange is Thursday, April 30.  Completed applications should be sent to The Orange Foundation, P.O. Box 729, Orange, CT. Those eligible for grants include non-profit organizations, parent-teacher organizations and service organizations.

Janice Lettick, Chair of Grant Distribution and member of the Distribution Committee states,  “Since it began giving out grants, the Foundation has distributed over $145,000 to various local civic and community organizations. The grant range is from $500.0 to $1500.00. We encourage Orange community organizations to apply for funding to support their activities.” 

Past recipients include Orange Juniorettes, Shepherd’s Table, Orange Senior Services, Orange Historical Society, and the American Legion Post 127 among others. The Officer Robert F. Stankye Fund, the O’Sullivan Family Fund, the Olga Fund, and the Dusty and Frank Downey Fund, provide funding for these grants.

The Orange Lions Club awarded 13 community grants Monday night totaling $5,750.

From all the applications received, the Lions tried to choose organizations that support the LIONS mission.

Lion Mike Muttit was the event chairman.

Funding is available for projects benefiting the residents of Orange. Those eligible for grants include non-profit organizations, parent-teacher organizations, and service organizations.

According to Janice Lettick, Distribution Committee Member and Chair of Grant Distribution, “Since it began giving out grants, the foundation has distributed more than $138,000 to various local civic and community organizations. The grants range in size from $500 to $1,500. We encourage Orange community organizations to apply for funding to support their activities.”

Grant Funds include:

Officer Robert F. Stankye Fund – Established in 1994

To provide support in whole or in part to the projects and programs of community organizations within the Town of Orange.

O’Sulivan Family Fund - Established in 1994

To provide support in whole or in part to the projects and programs of community organizations within the Town of Orange.

The Olga Fund - Established in 2002

To provide assistance to any senior Orange Resident(s) who require medical, social, familial and/or other needs.  Also to provide assistance to resident families requiring temporary respite care; or funding for any event or project sponsored by the Town of Orange, a community service organization or any other non-profit group.

Past Recipients include: Camp Cedarcrest; Orange Arts Council; Necessities, Inc.; Orange Historical Society; and the American Legion Post 127.
