In September, Saving Isn’t Hard When You Have a Library Card

Orange residents will save on more than books, movies, and music during the month of September, thanks to the Case Memorial Library.

As part of National Library Card Sign-Up month, the library has partnered with 35 Orange businesses for a new promotion called “Show Your Card” that offers discounts and complimentary gifts and services to Orange residents who show their up-to-date Case Memorial Library card.

Show Your Card, which runs from September 1-30, was modeled after a similar event in the Mount Prospect Public Library in Illinois.

According to Rebecca Harlow, Head of Reference and Adult Services, most libraries with similar promotions had 10 to 15 businesses participating in their inaugural year. “Getting 35 businesses to participate in the first year is unprecedented,” Harlow said. “We are very fortunate to have such a supportive and enthusiastic business community in Orange.”

From the beginning, the month-long event was meant to be a mutually beneficial library-business partnership.

“We wanted to celebrate this year by doing something special for our residents and helping our local businesses,” said Library Director Meryl Farber. “‘Show Your Card’ is a fun way to reward our residents who already have library cards and to expose residents without library cards to all the great materials, programs, and services the library has to offer.”

Through the library, patrons have access to hundreds of thousands of books, DVDs, CDs, and more. Orange residents with library cards can also take advantage of free downloadable books, exclusive online resources including Ancestry.com, and an e-reader lending library.

“Your library card is already incredibly valuable. These businesses have just increased its value even more,” says Harlow.

Orange residents can get their free library card by visiting the Case Memorial Library at 176 Tyler City Road with a photo ID and proof of residence in Orange.

Brochures with a full list of participating businesses and offers are available at the library and online at www.casememoriallibrary.org.
