IMG_1121The Amity Spartans traveled to Cheshire to win an amazing game against the host Rams.

Senior Midfielder Matt DeLizio scored on a pass from Mike Cavanagh with 20 seconds left, to win the game for Amity.
The game was pretty evenly matched throughout with a 2-2 tie in the first quarter; 5-4 Spartan lead in the second; 6-5 neck-in-neck in the third and 7-7 in the fourth, that is until the final :20 with DeLizio’s winning goal and an 8-7 victory for the Spartans.

Brad Uscilla made 3 goals and 1 assist; , Matt DeLizio had 2 goals and 1 assist; Jake Milner and Ben DiMauro each made 1 goal and had 1 assist; Matt Attolino made 1 goal and Mike Cavanagh had 1 assist.
Cheshire
Andrew Criscuolo  made 3 goals; Matt Blois, Jack Raba, Sean Black, and Chris Papa each made 1 goal.
Amity outshot Cheshire 35-28
Saves
Amity’s Evan Campbell worked his heart out in this game with 17 saves; Cheshire’s Peter Brown made 6 saves for the Rams.

IMG_9276Amity Coach Brandon Pepe was hoping his Spartans would slay the Daniel Hand Tigers at Woodbridge Monday afternoon, but as the clocked ticked down in the final quarter, he knew it wasn’t going to happen.
Hand came on strong in the first quarter, scoring two goals and leaving Amity scoreless (2-0); in the second quarter the Spartans battled back, scoring two goals, to the Tiger’s 1 (3-2); the third quarter was a repeat of the first with Amity unable to find the net and Hand picking up two more (5-2); it was do or die in the final quarter with a repeat of the second quarter Amity 2 goals, Hand, 1 and the win at 6-4.
Notable players:
Jake Milner made 2 goals and 1 assist for the Spartans; Anthony Uscilla and Matt DeLizio each made 1 goal; Brad Uscilla had 1 assist.
The Tiger’s Lucas Mendicino was the game’s high scoring player with 3 goals; Bryan McManus had 1 goal and 2 assists; Clay Sweitzer and George McGuirk each made 1 goal and Reid Sweitzer had 2 assists.
Hand outshot Amity 21-19.
Goaltender Evan Campbell made 13 saves for the Spartans; Ethan Baser made 7 for the Tigers.
Records: Amity 1-2; Hand 2-0
Editor’s Note: From the sidelines it is always nice to see the respect the team has for its coaches and the positive way the coaches speak to the players win or lose.

IMG_8307It was opening day for Spring Sports at Amity today (Wednesday, April 8) with the Varsity Lacrosse, Softball and Baseball Teams competing at the same time at home.
Coach Brandon Pepe’s 2015 Spartans had a strong season start, going head-to-head with the Green Knights from Notre Dame, West Haven.
Notre Dame was first to score at 3:55 in the first quarter, but Amity tied things up a little more than a minute later at 5:02. The Green Knights pulled ahead, ending the first at 2-1.
The second quarter showed Amity’s real power with two goals and high-jumping chest bumps and success in keeping Notre Dame from scoring.  2Q score: Amity 3 – ND 2
The third quarter was a repeat of the first with the Green Knights -2, Amity – 1. 3Q score: TIED 4-4
Both teams had a spectacular fourth quarter with each pulling in 4 goals, Tying the score at 8-8 and going into overtime.
In the end it was the Green Knights that came out on top, defeating their hosts 9-8.

Amity Senior Evan Campbell made 10 saves; Notre Dame Sophomore Gino Pagliaro made 9 saves.

IMG_0202The Amity Spartans Varsity Lacrosse Team knew they were in for a battle when they hosted Cheshire in Woodbridge on Tuesday, May 6.

Cheshire played hard and skillfully. They outshot Amity 39-31 and held the lead through third quarter (Q1: 2-1; Q2: 5-3; Q4: 8-6).

The Spartans played to win as well, and in the final quarter, they put  on their game faces, catching up to, tying and finally defeating the Rams 10-8.

Scoring

Cheshire’s Matt Blois was the game’s high scorer with 4 goals. Anthony Trasacco brought in 2 for the Rams and Alec Thomas and Matt Samuelson each scored 1 goal.

The visitors’ Ben Hamel made 2 assists and Christian Russo had 1 assist for the Rams.

Cheshire’s goalkeeper Jared Lawson made 14 saves for his team.

On Amity’s side, Jake Milner and Brad Uscilla each scored 3 goals; Dave Buono made 2 goals and  Joe Choiniere and Ajay King scored 1 goal each.

Milner, King, Choiniere, and Tyler Burns each had 1 assist for the Spartans.

Spartans goalie Evan Campbell made 27 saves.

Records: Amity 8-2; Cheshire 4-7
