The Blades (Amity/Cheshire/North Haven) girls’ ice hockey team was on the road in Newington for a game against the Eagles (East Catholic/Glastonbury/South Windsor) on Wednesday, Jan. 24.

First Period

The Eagles got a jump on the Blades with an unassisted goal by Sara Rumley. Score 1-0.

Second Period

The Blades Andrea DelVecchio tied the score with an unassisted goal of her own. Then the Eagles took the lead with a goal by Merideth Mack, assisted by Sara Rumley. Score 2-1 Eagles.

Third Period

After the Zamboni smoothed the ice, the Blades came back to the rink determined to claim the lead. Tess Csejka tied the score at 2 on an assist from Nadia DiNatale. Then, Cally Dixon shot one in assisted by Melissa Montesi and Csejka, followed by Shannon Reilly’s goal assisted by DelVecchio.

The Eagles fought hard to at least tie the game, and came close when Shannon Rumley got one past Blades goalie Juliana Daddio assisted by Victoria Amaral and Madison Blazejowski, but it wasn’t enough. The Blades won 4-3.

Daddio made 21 saves in this contest.

Records: Blades 12-3, Eagles 1-12

Next Up: Senior Night at the Rinks at Shelton vs Simsbury (4-8) Saturday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m.

There are several Amity Varsity sports events this week. Most are “away” but two are nearby – one at home.

Wednesday, Dec. 27

The Amity Wrestling Team will Be on the road in Simsbury to compete in the Frank Chaves Invitational at 10 a.m.

The Girls Ice Hockey Team will be on the road in Enfield at 4:20 p.m. W 3-2 (OT)

The Girls Basketball team will play Masuk at Trumbull High School at 5:30 p.m.

The Amity Boys Basketball team hosts West Haven in Woodbridge at 7 p.m. W 78-51

Thursday, Dec. 28

The Girls Indoor Track Team will compete in the Wil Wright Invitational Meet at SCSU at 12 p.m.

The Wrestling team will take on New Haven Wrestling at Wilbur Cross High School at 7 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 29

Holiday Tournament Finals at Trumbull High School (time to be announced)

Saturday, Dec. 30

The Wrestling Team will compete in the Southington Duals at 9 a.m.

The Boys Swimming and Diving team is on the road in East Lyme at 10 a.m.

The Girls Ice Hockey team will be on the road in Greenwich at 12 p.m.

The Boys Ice Hockey team plays Staples at the Milford Ice Pavilion at 3 p.m.

Jan 4-7

On Monday, Jan. 4, the Girls Hockey Team will play Stamford-Westhill-Staples at the Shelton Rinks at 8 p.m.

Wednesday, Jan. 6 is a very busy night with the Wrestling Team against Daniel Hand at Amity at 6:30 p.m., Boys Hockey will take on Milford CoOp at the Edward Bennett Rink in West Haven at 8 p.m. and Girls Hockey plays ND-Fairfield-Foran in Shelton at 8:30 p.m.

Thursday, Jan 7 Boys Swimming and Diving takes on Granby at the Orange Town Pool at 7:15 p.m.

Jan 11-15

Monday, Jan. 11, Boys Basketball goes up against Notre Dame-West Haven in Woodbridge at 7 p.m., Girls Hockey takes on Daniel Hand at the Shelton Rinks at 8 p.m.

Tuesday, Jan. 12, Wrestling takes on New Haven at Amity at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Jan. 13, Boys Hockey will battle Branford in West Haven at 6:30 p.m., Boys Basketball hosts Guilford in Woodbridge at 7 p.m.

The Girls Blades Hockey Team ( a collaborative of Amity-North Haven-Cheshire) faced off with Branford on Friday in Branford.

Play by play

The first period got off to a great start with the Blades racking up 4 goals: Sarah Kalina, assisted by Caitlin Early and Alexa Carbone at 13:52; Andrea Noss, assisted by Abbie Lange at 10:46; Abbie Lange  with an assist by Lauren Blackwell at 7:31 and Andrea Noss, assisted by Caitlin Early, and Abbie Lange at 4:02.

In the second period the Blades did even better with Abbie Lange scoring an unassisted goal at 14:38; then Andrea Noss with an assist from Rachel Kozak bringing the score to 6-0 at 11:47; Alexa Carbone assisted by Mary Kate Martino shot one in at 8:43; then Andrea Noss, assisted by Lauren Blackwell and Sarah Kalina at 7:00; rounding things out was Andrea Noss, assisted by Kayla Hipona at 3:03 bringing the second period score to 9-0

Branford finally showed up on the scoreboard in the third period with an unassisted goal by April Simmons at 9:41.

Emily Gotowola, assisted by Andrea Noss and Sarah Kalina, made the Blades 10th goal at 7:45

Break Down top performers:

Blades player Andrea Noss had 5 goals, 1 assist; Abbie Lange with  2 goals and 2 assists; Sarah Kalina had 1 goal, 2 assists.

The Blades outshot Branford 39-10

The Amity-North Haven-Cheshire team now has a 4-7 record for the season.
