The Orange Volunteer Firemen’s Carnival is the department’s most important fundraiser of the year. The popular event at the Orange Fairgrounds, 525 Orange Center Road is open today from 3 p.m. to midnight. If it’s raining, come for the food! This year, the women’s auxiliary is offering Pie, pie a la mode, ice cream floats, coffee and iced coffee. Don’t miss their section under the main food tent (pavilion)

Amusement ride activities are dependent upon the weather of course. (Forecasters say the rain should clear up by 6 p.m – yet at 12:21 it looks like the sun is already breaking through – but a weather alert was just posted for bad weather until 2:15 p.m.)

Advance ride wristbands can be used during the Saturday Matinee from 12 – 5 p.m. and Saturday Evening from 5 p.m. to midnight.***

You may buy a ride wristband at the carnival for $28, that is good during the Saturday Matinee from 12-5 p.m.***

***due to the delayed opening this may have changed

Don’t forget about the FREE RAFFLE for Children during the Matinee. Children 12 and younger can register at the main raffle booth to win free prizes. You must be present to win!

Stay late for the SPECTACULAR FIREWORKS DISPLAY at 10:30 p.m.

Buy a Raffle Ticket or two (or more) and take a chance on the 50/50 Raffle a few times a day. (The very first 50/50 take home prize was $100! Not bad for a $2 investment)

Bicycle winners Cyrilla and Paul with Asst. Fire Chief Charles Sherwood.

Saturday is always a big day for kids at the Orange Volunteer Firemen’s Carnival. For as far back as I can remember, the Saturday matinee is when the Fire Department draws the winning tickets for the free bicycle raffle.

This year’s lucky winners were Paul from Milford and Cyrilla from West Haven.
The afternoon weather was perfect and it just got better as the day went on.
One of the hot spots was the fried dough booth under the pavilion and Eli’s restaurant tent also found a lot of fans.
The OVFD always manages to reel in celebrity announcers, Radio personality Brian Smith has been volunteering for a few years and this afternoon some were surprised to hear the smooth and familiar voice of former tv newsman Leon Collins, now a Legislative Representative for the Connecticut State Firefighters Association.
The annual fundraising event ends tomorrow, (Sunday) at 5 p.m.
If you have purchased your discount-priced ride bracelets online, when you arrive at the fairgrounds, go directly to the rear of the raffle tent (across from the pavilion ‘Main Food Tent’) to pick up your wristbands, and have your ID ready.

You may use your wristbands on Sunday, Aug. 6 from 12 noon to 5 p.m.

Remember, children must be at least 3-feet tall to ride any ride.

You can still buy regular priced tickets at the carnival.

This is the 89th annual Firemen’s carnival and this year the goal of the department’s largest fundraiser is to raise $850,000 to purchase a 75-foot ladder truck with the capability of reaching the tall buildings in town.

Don’t forget to buy your raffle tickets for a chance to win one of 11 prizes which, this year, are:

  1. $7,000 Visa Gift Card – People’s Bank
  2. $4,000 Gift Card – Travelers Choice, 236 Boston Post Road, Orange, CT

In 2003, the Orange Ale House began its transformation from a neighborhood bar to become the Orange Ale House Bar & Grille, a family-friendly dining spot during the day and a favorite place in which to have a fundraising event.

Owner Jim Hassenmayer and his sons, Dan and Rob are well known to regular customers and have helped make the Ale House a household name.

The Hassenmayers often can be seen at town wide events, such as the Rotary Lobster Festival where they sponsor the beer tent.

Since he took over the business,  Jim has hosted countless fundraising events, providing the food and a nice clean venue for charities like Jam for Jimi’s Friends, a motorcycle ride for the Milford Literacy Center, raising money for Keith Johnstone, the quadriplegic Bethany firefighter and so much more.

Aside from this, the Ale House also boasts a wonderful menu [http://www.orangealehouse.com/page/21106-Menu] and was one of the first Orange establishments to recognize the versatility and popularity of grilled cheese sandwiches. The lobster grilled cheese is at the top of the list for anyone that has tried it.

Salads, burgers and pizza, using dough from the popular Salerno’s Pizza Restaurant.

Moms and Grandmas love celebrating Mother’s Day with family by having a nice quiet dinner at the Orange Ale House in the remodeled dining room.

If you haven’t gone to the Orange Ale House in a while, afraid that it’s “just a bar.” Think again, stop by, have a seat and enjoy.

Monday to Wed – 3:30PM to 1 AM
Thurs & Sunday – Noon to 1AM
Friday & Saturday – Noon to 2AM

Happy Hour – Mon to Fri 4 – 7PM

The Orange Ale House has a Facebook Page at https://www.facebook.com/orangealehouse?fref=ts and a web site at http://www.orangealehouse.com/
