Amity girls basketball rolled over Law Tuesday night 50-38.

The girls’ varsity team has been down a few players due to injuries, however, they continue to be resilient and work together to bring home the “W”!

The Lady Spartans were lead by Jillian Martin (18 points) and Jayne Whitman (11 points).

They maintained the lead the entire game.

Amity has a big test Friday night versus top-ranked Hand.

Whitman 11 points

Blakeslee 6 points, 3 steals, 3 assist

Eschweiler 5 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals

The Lady Spartans continued their winning streak to 4-0 on Monday, Dec. 30.  It was another tremendous team effort to win their first Annual Holiday Tournament Championship.

Amity beat a tough Trumbull team in the first round and had a great offensive night to beat Bethel 51-32 in the finals.

Amity, led by senior captain Jillian Martin with a double-double (17 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists),
Jayne Whitman also in double figures with 11 points.

There also were great contributions from Sarah Granados with 8 points and 8 rebounds, Abby Eschweiler with 8 rebounds and Meadow Blakeslee with 7 points and 3 assists.

Congratulations to Senior Captain Meadow Blakeslee for being selected to the All-Tournament Team and Senior Captain Jillian Martin as the Tournament MVP.

Amity girls on a roll this season defeating two top-ranked teams in the state, Hillhouse and on Saturday night beat Trumbull High in the Annual Holiday tournament.
This young Amity team may be undersized, but they are tenacious, quick and have great team chemistry. With their gritty defensive style, the girls held a top-ranked Trumbull team to only 32 points.
Amity out-rebounded Trumbull the entire game. Abby Eschweiler led teams rebounder stats with 13 rebounds, followed by freshman Sarah Granados with 10, and Meadow Blakeslee with 9.
Amity led at the half with a score of 21-14. At the start of third-quarter Trumbull hit 3 three-pointers in a row to take the lead for the first time. Sophomore guard Jayne Whitman hit two crucial shots for Amity to take the lead again.
In the fourth-quarter Amity was up 30-27. The team had great defensive stops and again dominated on the boards. The game was clenched with crucial foul shots from Megan Smith ( 4 for 4) Meadow Blakeslee (1-2) and Jillian Martin (5 for 7) from the foul line.
Jillian Martin lead the team with 15 points and 5 assist, Jayne Whitman 7 points, Megan Smith and Abby Eschweiler both with 6 points.
The girls play in the championship game vs Bethel on Monday night at 6 p.m. at Amity High School.

The Lady Spartans Varsity Basketball team is now 2-0 for the season.

Notes from the first game vs Career on Dec. 18.

This was a great team effort, lead by senior captain Jillian Martin with a personal high of 28 points, Jayne Whitman and Megan Smith added 7 points each, Jenna Vanhise with 4 blocked shots.

Amity won 59-30

Game Two vs Hillhouse

On Friday, the Lady Spartans had an amazing 20 point comeback against Hillhouse. This nailbiter resulted in a final score of 50-48.

Amity was down by 20 points in the third quarter.  The impressive comeback was sparked by 4 three-pointers from Freshman Sarah Granados in the third quarter.
The run continued in the 4th quarter with a key 3 pointer by Meadow Blakeslee’s and 2 three-pointers from Jillian Martin. At minute markdown by 3 points Martin with a key steal and converted lay-up and foul shot to tie the game at 48-48.
With 12 seconds left it was Martin with an assist to Eschweiler for the winning basket!!

The Lady Spartans Basketball team hosted Branford in Woodbridge on Tuesday night.

Amity took a 7-point lead in the first quarter — Score 18-11 Amity. The Lady Spartans maintained their lead in the second quarter with 11 points to Branford’s 7 —Score 29-18.

The third quarter nearly mirrored the last with Amity pulling in 12 points to Branford’s 7 — Score 41-25. It would have taken a miracle for the Hornets to sting the Spartans in the fourth quarter. Branford continued to trail Amity to the end, adding only 9 points to Amity’s 13. — Final Score 54-34 Amity

The Lady Spartans Basketball team was on the road in Hamden for a game against Sacred Heart Academy on Monday, Jan. 8.

Amity’s Jillian Martin was the game’s high-scoring player with 19 points

What happens when you put two powerhouse basketball teams together on the court? You are treated to a phenomenal game.

That’s what we witnessed at Amity High School on Tuesday evening as the Lady Spartans hosted the Guilford Indians.

The teams were tied 9-9 in the first quarter then Guilford sprinted ahead in the first half of the second quarter leaving Amity 6 points behind, but nay nay, Amity Coach Michelle Shoop would not have any of that. The Lady Spartans tied the score again, pulled ahead and at the last minute Guilford scored another two points ending the first half at 21-19.

The third quarter belonged to Amity which trounced its guests with 16 points to a mere 2 points by the Indians. Third quarter score: 35-23 Amity.

After that The Indians could not catch up to the Lady Spartans, both teams played well in the final quarter, but it was Amity to the end with a 48-34 victory.

GUILFORD 9 12   2 11—34

The game’s highest scoring player was Amity’s Tara Laugeni 6 5-7 17, who also had 16 rebounds and 5 steals. Next was  Jillian Martin 4 1-2 13, which included four 3-pointers, then Amanda Granados 4 3-4 12 (one 3-pointer and 9 assists), Jenna VanHise 2 0-0 4, who also had 11 rebounds, and Leia Foyer 0 2-2 2. Totals: 11 11-15 48.

Guilford’s high scoring player was Amanda King 4 0-0 10, which included two 3-pointers. Followed by Jamie Danaher 3 2-4 8,  Molly Livell 3 0-0 7 (one 3-pointer),  Hannah McDermott 2 0-0 4, Sam Leiby 1 1-2 3, and Julia Hyman 1 0-0 2 Totals: 11 3-8 34.

Records: AMITY (6-1), GUILFORD (4-1)
