2016 SCC Volleyball Champions!

2016 SCC Volleyball Champions!

The Amity Lady Spartans went into the SCC Championships against the Cheshire Rams for the third consecutive year on Saturday and, as expected, both teams had their game faces on.

The first game belonged to Cheshire and the 27-25 loss stunned Amity.

Back on the court in game two, the Rams quickly butted their way to a 15-8 lead, then the Lady Spartans regrouped and battled back and demonstrated their winning team form that fans have come to know so well. Amity tied things up at 17-17, then won the game 25-20.

Cheshire battled hard in the next two games, including a quick lead in game 3, but Amity just wouldn’t be denied the back to back title, winning the next two games 25-18, 25-16.

Senior Kathleen Walsh (17) was named SCC Player of the Year  and Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament.

This is reminiscent of the 2015 SCC Championship Tourney when Amity’s Micaela Cardozo was crowned SCC Player of the Year and Tournament MVP.

Other notable Amity players were sophomore Abby Harbinson (21), Junior Brooke Matyasovsky (28/L35), Junior Jaiden Williams (14), sophomore Olivia Pisano (11), and senior Jessica Ferraiolo (15)

What’s Next?

Next week both teams will compete in the state Class LL Tournament where Amity will be the No. 2 seed and Cheshire sixth (the CIAC finals also will be at East Haven High).

It’s been 13 years since Amity has been to a state final.
