IMG_3535After losing 20 seniors to graduation in June, the Amity football coaches knew they would pretty much have to start over to build a strong team.

The three captains, Sean Grenier (#10), Matt Attolino (#23) and Jack Demirjian (#58) are among the 10 seniors on this team which still seems to be trying to find itself.

In Thursday’s SCC interdivision game against Lyman Hall Attolino made a heart-stopping 87-yard kickoff return 15 seconds into the second half, dodging the flying Trojans  for the first 40-yards, then running the remaining 37-yards past the goal line unchallenged. He also rushed for 159 yards including three touchdown runs of 2, 5, and 18 yards.

Attolino has made 9 touchdowns for the Spartans in the first 4 games this season. Who knew he would be this year’s standout?

After famed kicker Lyle Luth graduated, no one was sure Amity could find anyone to take his place, but underclassman, Jordan D’Onorfrio (#12) also has proven himself to be a valuable asset.  He had a 21-yard field goal in Thursday’s game.

Other notable plays included Andrew Tudino (#62) with a sack and a fumble recovery; Austin Mosley (#5) had a “pick” for the Spartans; Matt Post (#89) and Josh Arata (#28) each had three interceptions.

On Lyman Hall’s side running back John O’Malley (#4) had a couple of good runs and offensive lineman Tucker McClure (#51) took down a few Spartans during the game.

Final: Amity 31, Lyman Hall 0

Records: Amity 2-2: Lyman Hall 0-4

Touchdown! Dchuan Wilson scores for the Spartans.

The Amity Spartans crushed the Sheehan Titans 33-6 in Wallingford on Friday night.

NOTE: I was taking photos and did not write down any notes during the game. Although I requested it, no one sent the line scores so I’m winging it from matching the photos to the timeline. Sorry Spartans. You deserve better than this.

The first quarter was scoreless, then senior Dchuan Wilson stayed ahead of the pack and scored for the Spartans with 1:37 left in the second quarter.  (6-0 Amity)

Amity scored at 8:10 in the third quarter (I believe it was Matt Attolino) and the kick was good.  (13-0 Amity) and (Wilson) again at 4:33 with extra point (20-0 Amity)

Tyler Selmecki put Sheehan on the score board with a 65 yard TD with 33 seconds left in the third quarter. The point kick was no good.  (20-6 Amity)

At 11:01 in the fourth quarter (Attolino) came through with another TD for Amity, and Jordan D’Onofrio’s kick was good (27-6 Amity)

Kevin Nusdeo sealed the win for the Spartans at 6:51 with D’Onofrio’s point kick. Final Score Amity 33 – Sheehan 6.

Records: Amity 1-1; Sheehan 0-2
