It’s hard to believe, but it is almost time for the New Year’s Day Chilly Chili Run to benefit the Amity Teen Center.

The 22nd annual 5K Race and Fitness Walk, followed by a hot chili brunch, will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 1 at the High Plains Community Center in Orange.

Entry fees are $27.00 for the 5K Road Race, $15.00 for runners 12 and under, and $15.00 for those who want to register for the Fitness Walk.

There will be an Early Packet Pickup and Late Registration in person at the High Plains Community Center on Monday, December 31, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Day of Race registrations will begin at 7:30 a.m. in the gymnasium.

Teen Center President Jane Opper said, “This is the Amity Teen Center’s largest fundraiser of the year.  We are fortunate, once again, to have People’s United Bank as our Title Sponsor.  So, join us on January 1 to walk or run to celebrate the New Year and enjoy a hot chili brunch afterward.”

IMG_7632The People’s United Bank 2014 “Chilly Chili Run,” to benefit the Amity Teen Center, will take place on New Years Day at the High Plains Community Center in Orange.  The 5K Road Race and Fitness Walk will be followed by a hot chili brunch.

This will be the 17th year for the race and it has become a highlight on the Connecticut and New England Racing Calendars.

The Early Registration discount ended on Dec. 16 current fees and on the day of the Race are $25 for Runners, $18 for Runners 12 and under, and $18 for the Fitness Walk.

They will have an “Early Packet Pickup and Late Registration” on Tuesday, Dec. 31 at the High Plains Community Center, 525 Orange Center Road in Orange from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Registration on the Day of the Race will begin at 8:00 a.m. in the Community Center gymnasium.  The Race steps off at 10:30 a.m.

Chilly Chili Run, Chilly Chilly Fun!

And…GO!

The 36 degree temperature was appropriately chilly for the annual New Year’s Day Amity Teen Center Chilly Chili Run.

For the second consecutive year, Matt Klein, 18, of Trumbull was the overall winner with bib #1 he was the first to cross the finish line.

Liz Gottlieb, 37, of San Rafael, Ca., who has been the first woman across the finish line in the past repeated this accomplishment again, coming in at 19:00.

Of 537 runners, several were age 90 or older. The oldest, 94 year old George “Doc” Whitney, came in ahead of 10 other participants, with a time of 48:56.

Kyle Beaudette, 14, was the first Orange resident to cross the finish line, also earning him first place in the 13-15 age group with a time of 18:49.
