IMG_0156When the Amity Hockey team steps onto the ice tonight against North Branford, the “goal” is to prove they can play the game.

With only one win this season (Cheshire 7-2) one tie (North Haven 2-2) and three losses, and just 15 remaining games in 2015, they have to step things up if they are going to see tournament play.

At Saturday’s game against Milford at the Milford Ice Pavillion, David McLenithan, assisted by Jarred Butts got one past Amity goalie Tyler Johnston at 4:45 into the first period putting the Indians in the lead 1-0.

The Spartans came out stronger in the second period taking shots, and playing hard, but it wasn’t until there was only 4:26 remaining that Amity finally scored.

Jeremy Cable, assisted by Kevin Ryan and Dalton Luciani slid one in past the Indians goalie Sean Rowland, tying the game at 1-1.

In the final period, Milford’s Jonathan DePascale passed the puck to Jacob Comeau who scored the winning goal with 5:20 left in the game.

Milford 2, Amity 1.

Milford outshot Amity 27-23 and both goalies earned their keep, Johnston with 25 saves for the Spartans and Rowland with 22 saves for the Indians.

Amity’s coaches were not happy with their teams performance, noting they had a lot of missed opportunities.

Asst. Coach Mike Richetelli said they would work on their plays during Tuesday’s practice and it was time for the senior players to step up and lead.

Tonight’s game takes place at the Bennett Rink in West Haven at 6:30 p.m.
